IMO makes no difference where you go to school!

ok i may sound provocative or naive but really cmon folks....stop this nonsensical tirades about this school and that school. Besides the fact that certain states wont license certain schools or the tuition costs...cmon already. When i got in i was high as a kite thankful that i got in somewhere and i was going to become a doctor. I couldnt shop around! But damn a school accepted me!

I have been living & practicing in the tristate area decades and personally believe how important and wonderful it is to learn to speak espanol. i
I went to a school in 1976 some might know already, where conditions were truly despicable. We struggled like you will never struggle in your lives i promise you all that. Yet we were motivated, warriors. We didnt have the luxury of choosing this place or that one. We stuck to our books, we swallowed our pride lots of it, we studied and learned medicine in english and spanish with lanterns candles and went days at a time without water. We wanted to be doctors.
You folks cannot think that you will get the education you need to pass your exams to get back here unless you take the courses specialized for it and study the american books/old american exams etc etc. The DR i will always be grateful for since it gave me the chance to "study and gain entrance to the US medical system". But i did all the work. we did all the work . the school did none of it. We passed cos we busted our backs.
dont expect the schools differences to get you back here.
If youre determined and you book and book and book you will succeed.
In any school in any country in any situation.

Pick a place. Make sure the school is WHO accepted. and stop this
shopping around. There are pluses and negatives with every school.
whats good for one individual aint good for another.
My assumption based on years of experience is that life has ups and downs and that goes for the choice of med school. Be lucky you have choices but dont think others have it over you cos you fantasize that they are going to a better school. This is horsecrap!!!

You make me laugh so much my diaphragm just ruptured....
San Pedro de Macoris 1976..... it was like yesterday....
Quality teaching ??????? can make a difference in how easily you learn material. You could certainly lock yourself in a room for a couple of years with a bunch of books and learn what you need to pass the boards, but having someone explain thinks makes that a less painful process. So I think you you are willing to really bust your tail, you can get what you want from any school. CHoosing a good school will make your way a bit easier. ( WRONG!!!!!)

youre idealistically right BUT basically practically awfully all so wrong! All of us locked ourselves in a room for 4 years and studied spanish folletos, english texts, old questions, Kaplan etc etc etc We hated the fact that we had to shlep to classes..All of us who wanted those pieces of papers... the diploma, the Flex, the ECFMG whatever!!!!!!!!! booked in our homes and taught ourselves...
these professors abroad werent the slightest interested if we learned what we needed to learn to get back home! Quality teaching?????????cmon!!!!!!!!! are you an IMG???
if they showed up for classes that was quality... the gringos sat in the back
pretended they cared when their matricula number was called then went on to read Harrisons the whole 4 years and hopefully ignored whatever the professor said... I did not learn one thing from a professor except perhaps the material that he or she passed out to memorize like anatomy biochem physiology that kind of stuff.
tristate area---- New York, NJ and Ct....

    Sorry

Sorry your professors sucked. Mine were good, and I learned a lot from them. The areas on step 1 where I scored the highest were the areas I has the best professors. Guess it goes to show you can't apply experience from one school to all schools. You also shouldn't tell people they are wrong when you haven't a clue what their experiences are.....

Considered by many to be one of the larger schools in the Caribbean, or so i thought.

Maybe before telling a bunch of people who might see your advice as being very good because of your experience, you might consider educating yourself about the subject of your advice.

I'm pleased that I could "make you laugh so hard you ruptured your diaphragm". Respectfully, if you don't know anything about any of the schools on this forum, perhaps your advice is best not posted. Before you tell someone they are "wrong", as you so eloquently put it, do a little research. G

i believe the title of this forum is UNIBE and DR schools

you sound like someone whose feelings are hurt because i never hoid of your school. narcisistic wounds do hurt. ya see i never hoid of your school and you still call yourself a doctah! see! ya feel better?

this was a DR forum. not a generalized caribbean forum!
i dont need your lectures. You have nothing instructive insightful nor
creative to tell me! quite audacious you are.

my messages received great reviews and are still being quoted.

you can be pompous as much as it makes you feel better
in life but i wont listen to your pomposity.
your purose in your response to me was totally emotional.
your feelings were hurt. Your only recourse was to lash out at me
and tell me what i should know or should have known or what i should do in the future about these forums?!?

think about this a little. Let someone perhaps/not wiser teach you a modicum of self reflection and how to be nice to people, not tear into them
when your feelings are hurt. Theyre your feelings. Trying to hurt others
because you feel wounded incites battles not productive ongoing conversation.

My feelings were not hurt, nor do I feel wounded. What you said was that it doesn't matter where you went to school. I disagreed. In general, people can do it if they work hard enough. Why do it alone if you don't have to? You are right, this is the DR forum, my apologies for not looking at which forum you posted in. I read many of the posts without paying much attention to where they are located. That being said, perhaps if the DR schools don't offer much in the way of teaching it would be wise to advise people to pursue other options. Rather than say "Who cares if the teaching sucks, bust your hump and you can do it, pal....." it would be better to advise people to consider all of their options. Advising people to "quit shopping around" and go anywhere isn't the best advice, is it? My purpose wasn't to lash out in an emotional way, I'm sorry if it came across that way. There are more options out there than the DR schools, which is a change from when you went to school. People SHOULD shop around and find a school that is accepted in all states and that offers good teaching (ya know, the thing that makes you laugh until you rupture your diaphragm). They do exists now-a-days. G

    Re

    Respectfully Teratos,
Reasons why people choose the DR:
1]Tuition's cheaper[Thats not a good excuse, but people buy Chinese made stuff all the time-see my point]
2]DR is country, a lot bigger then most of the Islands.Makes people feel better.
3]People actually learn a lot here -Old Hindu saying-u can learn even from a lousy teacher.
4]U learn to speak Spanish-that helps a bit in the US-what with the Hispanic population projected to be around 30% in the next 10 yrs.
5]We go to real hospitals where the nurse teaches u how to suture, and clean wounds, coz he is overwhelmed.Oh and u r still in pre-med!So u learn a lot here at the hospitals, u probably learn a lot more at the hospital then in the class room. And u r still in premed.Wow, now u can't find that in the Islands-maybe u can, but I dont know yet.
6]A lot of US students have rich and proud hispanic heritage, they choose the DR because they feel at home.

There is a lot of other points which can be mentioned , I just don't care to list them now, I am just tired. Now please add the abovepoints up, it looks a lot better then it might look.

Losackmd is well known around here and is a senior Doc ,just as you are.
You guys bring alot of value to the forum.I am sure both of you will continue to guide us all in the future.
    Have a nice day gentlemen.
