    Unibe, intec and o&med

    Advertisements

    Hello Guys,

I'm planning on applying to these 3 med schools now, but I don't know if they will transfer my credits. I have been going through the premed Requirements to go to a U.S. med school. However, I prefer to go to any of these ones. I will like to know about any experiences while transferring or of you know anything about it.

Also i will like to know how are the classes at a O&Med, if they are well sttucture, how are the professors, etc.

    Any information will be appreciate.

    Thanks I'm advance

UNIBE will transfer your credits, sort of. They'll accept some, not all, and you'll have other requirements from the Dominican Republic to fulfill. Send them in and see what they say and where they will place you, but take that with a grain of salt... the most you'll ever get into is pretty much 4th semester (last pre-med) to meet their other requirements.

I get some good and some bad reviews from Intec - but I don't have enough to say about it.

O&Med, from what I hear is as high quality as it gets. I'm looking into this for myself, actually. I hear they don't accept transfer credits - which is the biggest drawback for me, but as far as quality of the campus and professors, I hear it's top notch for the DR.

DO NOT transfer to UNIBE. First GOOGLE "ECFMG TRANSFER CREDITS" and read the ECFMG policy.

In short, your credits will most likely expire before your graduation date if they were completed after January 1, 2008. Which means you will not be allowed to sit to take Step 1. I don't care if you know some UNIBE graduate that is a plastic surgeon in NY, it is a different system now in this "school" and the ECFMG has new rules.

    FROM ECFMG Site:

*Important Note: The criterion that credits must be transferred from one IMED-listed medical school to another IMED-listed medical school does not apply to credits transferred only to the pre-medical portion of the curriculum of the medical school that awarded or will award the medical degree.

That's from the site, so it seems that you CAN transfer credits into the pre-med program, but you can't lateral from med school to med school unless it's IMED-listed.

IMED listing is not the reason the ECFMG is denying student requests to take USMLE STEP 1. The reason is credit's expiring because they will be over 7 years old from the time you approved that credit, up to your graduation date from UNIBE. You are talking about two different criteria.

That IMPORTANT NOTE, you are talking about only applies to IMED listing which is not the problem. The problem is that UNIBE is accepting credits that will be 7 years old or more at your graduation date, and not telling anyone that they will be invalid with the ECFMG. Then when the ECFMG denies your request to sit for STEP 1, the school goes "Oh well that sucks, if I were you I'd apply for an exemption but no it will not be sent on official school letterhead or signed by us as it is required by the ECFMG."
