Schools at DR losing student loans!!!!!!

    Advertisements

Highlights of the Conference Report on H.R. 4137

The conference report addresses an issue of debate regarding foreign medical and nursing schools. It ensures that a for-profit, foreign medical school does not lose its Title IV student loan eligibility when it moves its clinical training from one state to another as long as the new program is approved by the state. It increases the pass rate on the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam required of foreign medical schools from 60 to 75 percent, beginning July 1, 2010. Additionally, the conference report requires the National Committee on Foreign Medical Education and accreditation to recommend to the Secretary of Education and Congress what criteria need be met by new foreign medical schools that wish to participate in the student loan program.

Let me know what u guys think, and whats the passing rates at UNIBE and UCE?
The international office at UCE told me that "mas o menos" 6 out of 10 pass the step 1. She didnt have an exact percentage (or any idea of what she was talking about). Thats weird man. No numbers from last year, the last class or last usmle session. UNIBE said something about 89% but didnt mentioned if it was first time takers.I believe that schools that sell the dream of making you a great doctor and preparing individuals to practice medicine in the US should keep track of this type of data(after all, we giving them so business and helping the economy with them beautiful student loans!!). For me, this is something really serious, so please guys let me know what you think.....

Whether you pass or fail the usmle is confidential information. Only recently unibe has students sign a statement that they (unibe) can obtain this information for statistical purposes. Note i said only recently......i know, personally, many students who have obtained their education in foreign schools and i also know several from unibe that are in excellent practice situations and a few are in academic programs and head of departments.
What i am saying..........it can be done.......and it is being done by students who have the aptitude. it does not take a genius to obtain your M.D. degree but it does take a lot of hard work, blood, sweat and tears!
