    "Non-Traditionals" at UNIBE?

Can anyone tell me whether UNIBE has an upper limit on the age of the students it will admit? I am a 37-year old who went back to school for his science prerequisites. The notion of studying at UNIBE interests me a great deal, but I couldn't find anything explicit on the school website or on this site regarding the "oldness" question. Any input would be much appreciated...

I know it is a bit belated, but I wanted to say thanks to all of you for your insights and info, encouragement and caveats alike. (well, I probably liked the encouragement more but...) I remain committed to pursuing this course, though I am aware of the difficulties that lie ahead. I can only hope that with hard work and some luck I will be able to accomplish this dream (the music swells...) Hope to meet some of you in the DR someday.

Look at it that way... if u start med school at the age of 37 , u will finish when u are 41 and 3 years minimum residency... at 44 you have 21 years to practice, and retire at the age of 65. 21 years to do what u like doing is danmmmmmm pretty good.

I am very glad to see how many of us are going against all odds to accomplish our dreams. To many, just spending many years in school alone is a hurdle. I am actually 22 and I am debating wheter to finish my degree in electrical engineering in the next year and a half or taking the next year to do my pre-meds and going to UNIBE to do medical school. To my parents it's a disappointment that I will leave engineering unfinished to go to DR. But I only started it because I needed to do a degree in order to get to medical school in the states. However, given the fact that I don't need a degree in DR, I am willing to go by September 2010. I really wish you all the best of luck and YES! go forward with your dreams. Hopefully I'll get to have highly motivated classmates as you guys. Best of luck, Rosell Rodriguez.

you have to ask yourself...do i want to go to school for 5 years with students that JUST recently finished high school? (19 year olds-20 yr olds)

i'd say the professors at unibe are more open than some students can be....

that being said there are many non-traditional students at UNIBE that are happy pursuing their dreams and take it one day at a time

    good luck

hmm... i guess as long as you're not around 70's by the time you get your license, you should be fine. i actually have had a classmate back in undergrad whose mother started med school at the age of 55 (foreign med school, of course). she worked super hard and did an awesome job on usmle step 1 and is now practicing!!! you can do it! no one should be discouraged by their age. but gotta think about what field of medicine you would like to pursue tho. for example, going for surgery would be kinda unrealistic. at least that's how i think. but the most important thing to get into residency? usmle step 1 baby!

I feel my age gives me an advantage over the "traditional" students. I'm more focused and feel I want this more than anything in the world. I feel that if this is really what you want to do, and you set your mind to it, the hurdles become just that... hurdles. But the satisfaction of actually being able to do it far surpasses anything else I have ever experienced. I say GO FOR IT!
