    Advertisements

so i had a less than stellar 2nd year in university which brought down my gpa
and I didn't really know about ABP until earlier this year,
i, like many of you, desperately want to get in and if you guys could give me some idea of my chances so that i can be realistic about what to do next

graduated from Canadian university last year
    cGPA: 3.33
    MCAT: 30O

i have volunteered at a clinic abroad and with some otehr organizations.and yes i know my extracurriculars are not the best

I think you have a shot. You really should get more ECs though. Try doing some shadowing and volunteering in hospitals.

I'd apply to both Australia and Ireland. I personally would rather live in Australia, and Australia is less competitive although flights are cheaper to Ireland. I would apply regardless of what anyone says.

I agree with Tricuspid. Apply to both. Your MCAT is competitive, and if you are a remotely interesting candidate it should make up for the overall GPA (which does not completely suck, but let's be honest... it is not going to make anyone on the admissions committee pee their pants with excitement).

I would rather study in Ireland than Oz, but both are good options. Just remember that you will want to have a list of potential practice options, because the IMG/FMG match rates in the US are supposed to take a hit if the AAMC and ACGME are remotely correct in their predictions. Canada, as you likely already know, is freaking brutal for foreign grads already.

Also, I know some Canucks who attended DO schools in the US. Your stats would likely be quite competitive if you decided to go that route, which would be a much more likely path to a North American residency... especially if you are interested in a competitive specialty.
