Ireland: EU family member from EU med school

    Advertisements

    Hi All,

I am new to this forum and found this forum very helpful.
So here are my details and question:

I am an African citizen married to an EU citizen and about to finish my Internship from Hungary. After I graduate, we plan to move to Ireland to start my career as a doctor.

I have checked HSE website, Ireland and couldn't find any job at the moment for junior doctors.
My question is whether I can apply job as Training Specialist division or as an S.H.O.?

Also, how long can it take to register with Irish Medical Council (IMC) and approximate time to find a job?

Maybe someone who recently moved to Ireland can guide me through this. I will be highly grateful to you all.

Yes, if you are married to an EU citizen, you are probably in very good shape in that regard.

Contact an Irish HSE Recruiter directly, and they will definitely direct you further. They will probably even do it for free, unless things have changes significantly in the past year and a half. Good luck...

    Many thanks for the response.

Are the HSE recruiter same as agency like locum expres? Because i contacted them a while ago and they said they need only doctors with experience.

Can you please give me a link?

    Thanks

No, I do not have links to HSE recruiters, but check out Locumotion.

Yes, many of them will want experience, which I presumed your internship would be providing. If they are not counting that, then you will need to get additional experience before applying.

Either that, or apply to some of the GP training programs in Ireland. According to my previous contacts with some of them, they do not all require experience after graduation. However, there is an application, interview, and selection cycle for GP training that is on a set annual schedule, so it is not a speedy process, and there is no guarantee that you will be selected, of course. Also, you can only apply to three or four of the programs at one time, so you need to choose wisely as far as locations that will be likely to accept a foreign applicant.

    @masterboy123

You need to apply for SHO jobs. You cannot apply for trainee speciliast divison until you secure a training position. To get training position you need to apply through the RCPI website for the BST ( for medical specialities) and same for RCSI ( for surgical specialties). Not easy to get BST scheme without some previous experience( without counting internship).
All jobs are advertised officially by HSE on publicjobs.ie and hospitaljobs.ie is a good website too.
