INTO St George's, University of London VS University of Queensland Ochsner

    Advertisements

    University of Queensland Ochsner:

Has full accreditation by the Australian Medical Council (AMC), essentially the accrediting agency in Australia equivalent to the GMC and LCME. Meaning graduates are eligible to practice in Australia without restrictions, the same as Australian medical grads!

Clinical placements in the United States are at Ochsner Health Systems, a hospital network that provides and sponsors ACGME-approved clinical rotations in Anesthesiology, Diagnostic Radiology, General Surgery, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Ophthalmology, Orthopedic Surgery, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, and Urology. (Bold programs are the core disciplines and generally considered to be the most essential to medical training).

INTO St. George's, University of London

This program is not validated by the GMC, at least not yet anyway.

Clinical Placements are at Washington Adventist which does not sponsor any residency programs but has affiliations with some ACGME approved training programs. However, they don't cover all of the core disciplines which will be problematic for graduates. Also, there has yet to be a formal announcement on INTO St George's website confirming that their clinical rotations are at Washington Adventist. The extent of the official information provided by INTO is that you will do your clinical rotations in the "USA". Very vague.

In regards to your comments about INTO SGUL and our clinical rotations in the US, please note that were are working towards having all the core clerkships be at ACGME approved hospitals. Our website is also being updated for the 2013/14 admission cycle and we will be updating it in the coming months.

I'm sorry that you feel like we've provided vague information. If you need any clarification about items relating to our program please reach out to me at namerica[@]sgul.ac.uk or via phone at +1-310-251-6937.

    Best Regards,

    Shannon

I don't want to be rude, but I really encourage St George's to try and affiliate itself with more reputable institutions. At this point SGUL shares almost the same name as SGU in Grenada and is really quickly trying to emulate an off-shore school. Henry Gray and Edward Jenner would be rolling in their graves if they knew that their alma mater had started a program like INTO.

    Hi MD108,

Thanks for your continued interest in all things St George’s, University of London (we’re posting this on both the threads you’ve asked questions on for completeness).

We’re sorry that St George’s wasn’t for you, but respect entirely that different schools work for different students. We’re indeed proud of our famous alumni such as Gray, Jenner and Hunter, who were pioneers in their day. Since St George’s started training doctors in 1733, there have been many thousands who have followed in their footsteps and undertaken successful medical careers, and we hope that our students will continue to do just that for many centuries to come.
