Doing specialist training in UK/Ireland after RCSI

    Advertisements

Considering US residency positions will be in a crunch by 2015, what about the option of staying in UK/Ireland after graduation for specialty training if you don't match, and then returning to a state like Oklahoma, Maine, or North Dakota to practice once you've gotten your CCT and registered with the GMC-UK or GMC-I? I'm sure most US hospitals would recognize the UK or Irish specialty board certifcation for the granting of privileges. I've seen it before.

"Most US hospitals" is a stretch. "Some US hospitals" would likely be more accurate. And of course, you still have to match into the specialty in Ireland, don't forget that little hurdle!

But it is definitely an alternate plan, at any rate.
