Can one of the Admin's/Super Mod's explain the difference between the two to me? One of the mods explained it to me, but I think I misunderstood

To simplify....An alert doesn't count against you whereas an official warning does.

After a certain amount of official warnings, the account will be automatically banned. But sometimes the Mod doesn't want to be so harsh and will let the users off with an alert instead. The alert goes on record, but doesn't count towards the automatic ban.

As an analogy, let's use a hypothetical situation where a police officer pulls someone over for speeding. If the person was going 20 miles over the speed limit, they will likely receive a ticket which might come with a number of points on their license. After so many points, their license will be suspended/revoked. But if the driver was only going 5-10 miles over the speed limit, the officer might opt to let the person off with a warning. To relate to VMD, the traffic ticket would be the VMD official warning, whereas the traffic warning would be the VMD alert.

Hope this helps, but let me know if you still have any questions.

it does let mods/others know that a person has had issues that have gone beyond simple pm requests to comply. which may in turn impact on how another violation is treated.

I may be a jerk, but I'm a Jedi jerk like my father.

I've been asking for them since 2004... Luckily, there's no alert/warning system for going off-topic.

(ah crud... I hope that won't be in the new TOS)

I would like to add a user who has a history of being banned and or a lot of warnings is more likely to get a warning instead of an alert. Alerts and warnings are up to the Mod, and if you want the warning or alert removed you will need to deal with the Mod who gave it (No Mommy against Daddy here!)

Wanna bet? Well, there may not be a 'system' but steph issued a warning for anyone going off topic on the issue of users.

Now that I have an alert I feel like I moved up to the 'R' rating:

--I don't want you to be the guy in the PG-13 movie everyone's *really* hoping makes it happen. I want you to be like the guy in the rated R movie, you know, the guy you're not sure whether or not you like yet. You're not sure where he's coming from. Okay? You're a bad man. You're a bad man, Mikey. You're a bad man, bad man.

Woah! You have 1 alert, and a 'LEVEL 4' warning level... what did you do?

Sometimes, I want an alert for the heck of it... it's like getting a tatoo that says, baaaad aaaass! I mean, ValueMD is a tough place to do time, and I need ANYTHING that makes it easier, even it it includes an alert or something.
Batman: "Better put 5 cents in the meter."
Robin: "No policeman's going to give the Batmobile a ticket."
Batman: "This money goes to building better roads. We all must do our part."
