Anyone with School age kids and a spouse

    Advertisements

What is it like for you and your family. My wife and I have two kids, a 6year old and a 4 year old with one on the way. What are some of your reccomendations/suggestions for school and housing?

I am not sure if you are aware that you can't put your kids in public school here. You have to put them in private school which I have been told is about 700 per month per child. Something you may want to look into before you move the whole family down here.

My wife was able to home-school our kids. Although we were only on island for about 3 weeks before Ivan blew us to Maine, it worked streamline for that long. You must apply through the Minister of Education but it was a somewhat easy process compared to most govermental issues on GC. PM me if you have more specific questions.

You are able to send your children to Private school not public (as mentioned by crazytrain-rider) the current price for the school my son goes too is CI564pm aprox US700pm. This is for ages 4 thru 11 yrs of age.

I would recomend that you rent an apartment, you may want to ask the students what they pay a month, i believe it is anywhere from CI$1250 - $2500 for a one and two bed unit.

If you have any other questions please email me and i will get whatever info you may need.

    kids friendly housing

As you may have already noticed, lots of housing posted on the rental web sites state "no children". I presume it is because the apartments and houses are furnished and the owners are afraid kids will damage their property. I cannot imagine why else these properties would be so kids unfriendly.
Correct me if I am wrong.

Dear HR manager, could you help us, how can we get a listing of kids friendly housing. This is a real concern to those of us coming in with our wonderful families. (It breaks my heart to read "no children", what a shame).

    Someone please help.

If it is a little difficult on Grand Cayman, can you imagine what it must be like on one of the other Caribbean islands? Lots of things to consider, especially health care for your family, not to mention education, lifestyle and occupations. We will try to get you some more answers. Help is on the way. Best wishes!

Thank you for your positivity. Cannot wait to hear waht you can come up with.

    In the meantime,
    how about this idea.
Lets start a thread for students with families here/or elswhere?.
    Especially with respect to housing.
Since housing is so hard to come by and so expensive, it would be great if families could share housing. (ex: 2 families in a 3bdrm house).
Afterall, it take a whole village to raise a family, they say.
Why not have our kids grow up together for a while.

Now, this would work only through a good match system. Families with infants match, families with school age kids match, families with older children match, single-parent families match.

    Hmmm.
How could we organize this? Or is anything like this already out there?
Any suggestions would be greatly helpful.
