    SMU and returning to California???

    Advertisements

There is no possible way to return to California after attending SMU?

My friend who is a current SMU student said that after practicing in a different state for a few years, you may petition and return? But someone else told me that this is impossible. Which is true?

As of right now, even if an SMU grad gets licensed in another state, they can not practice in California. They will not recipricate (sp?).

    What does recipricate mean?

So by no means? Not even after 3 or 4 years of licensed practice in another state?

That is exactly what it means..Another common name for it is license by endorsement....CA does accept this, just not from SMU.

I can't understand why this topic even needs to be discussed. Why can't people just leave CA and smu alone, when the school is ready to apply again it will. It will only benefit them since they will be able to get students from CA to matriculate. And listening to other students about issues such as these is a big mistake. Any questions that you might have about licensing should be addressed to the state medical board, and not an online forum because your friend said everything will be ok. But to answer your question... you can get licensed in 35 different states, practice for 40 years, receive numerous awards, and save the president's life, and the state of CA will still not allow you to get licensed in their state.

Look don't even contact the Ca med board. If you want up to date info about the school and the issue with California, contact a school official. They will be more than happy to help you. Specifically contact Dr. T, the VP. I have communicated with him, and he has been very helpful. If you want his email address send me a PM.

    Response.

    Salutations:

If one plans on practicing in California, then one should attend a school that is California approved. Don't take any shortcuts about this, especially when it comes time for licensure. Ciao.
