    Getting a Medical license

    Advertisements

I was wondering how can I find out which states allow SMU students to get medical licenses (I live in NJ). I am currently in review for admissions for this upcoming fall, and so far I have gotten into SGU (on that foundation to medical track thing because of my major I have currently) and Ross.

Also, if I get my medical license in say State A which allows SMU students to get it, then can I go to other states, which would not allow SMU students, and still get my licenese?

No, you can't get a license in those states. Ever. I like SMU, but if you already got into SGU, go to SGU! You'll have all 50 states and federal loans. It's the best Carib school.
Which is longer, USMLE Step 1 or a Bollywood movie?

Good point, and thank you. But my problem is that I am on that medical foundation track and I am little worried if I do not pass. Does any one know how the exam is like that you have to take (mind you I am not a biology major like most, I am in Bioinformatics, half biology half computer science)?

Better to do the medical foundation track, go to SGU and graduate rather than taking a chance on SMU or any other school. If you fail the foundation track, think about how much money and frustration you saved - you would know for sure that medicine was not for you, and you didn't give up four years of your life and all that tuition to find that out. This is why they have that pre-medical program for.

However, if you do get through the test and make to SGU's class, you are well on your way to becoming a doctor, provided you study hard.

Also, I remember bioinformatics back in college and the undergrads in that major tended to be pre-meds. Your undergrad major doesn't predict your success, as long as you took the necessary basic science courses. I also remember that in my university, premeds tended to take super easy majors like biopsychology (seriously), so I think you should be quite well qualified with bioinformatics plus the foundation track. Go to SGU, take that opportunity, and study hard. Other schools should be a last resort.

BTW, I am a SMU graduate so I have no stake in SGU at all. But I have a lot of perspective on this process after four years, and I am sure the majority of people on this board will agree with my suggestion to you.

    Good luck...

If you have direct admission to Ross I'd suggest you go there over SGU.

i agree, if you think you are prepped for med school then take the direct admin...you work hard ross will give you the same opportunity...if you need the rehersal so to speak, then like someone posted earlier, going through FOM will help you find out if med school is for you.
