    State Licensure Question

    Advertisements

I'm sorry if this is already a discussed topic!

I am trying to figure out what states SMU graduates are not allowed to practice in; however, the sticky thread is filled with pages of material which prove hard to dig though.

Would someone please simply put the list of the states. Please limit your posts to the topic at hand so that we may all have a quick reference to the list via this thread.

    Much thanks!

As an SMU grad you can NOT practice in the following states: Cali, New mexico, Idaho, North Dakota, Kansas, Arkansas, Vermont, Massacuchetes, Tennessee, Alaska, Indiana. Think there are 2 more New hampshire may be one of them. Also, Texas is a pain to get a licsensed in, people are getting rejections from residency in Georgia due to Cali list, not dissaproved but some residencies are using the Cali list as a filter from what some people going through the match have said.

I've been a resident in Georgia for three years and I have to have my training license renewed every year (all the residents do). The CAli issues have never surfaced for me here in Georgia.

i have heard from someone who i trust that they got a rejection letter from a residency because of SMU on the cali list. You CAN absolutely get a licsense in Georgia but some individual residency director's may be using the Cali list as filter for their INDIVIDUAL program.

I understand why you are saying, but there are program directors out there that would deny any IMG an interview for X number of reasons. This may have just been the reason du jour, it just means that this was probably an isolated incident.

Thanks again for the information. I did look at the Texas site, and good lord it was long and confusing! Those of you who may know the rules better: am I correct in my conclusion from the Texas site that, if the applicant is board certified in the specialty, then he/she may apply despite the school not being on the equivalency list?

Thanks a lot again folks. Your comments, time, and work on this forum are very helpful and informative. Definitely much more so than SMU's administration has ever been!
