    SMU graduates not allowed UK license...

    The rules have now changed for SMU students awnting to practice in the UK!!
    I found out about this whilst on the phone to the GMC today...THANKS for letting us know SMU!!!


    Primary medical qualifications not accepted by the GMC

    The following medical schools are currently listed in the Avicenna Directory of medical schools but, at the present time, the GMC is not registering or issuing a licence to practise to graduates who hold primary medical qualifications obtained from those schools. Graduates from these schools are not permitted to make a booking for or to take the Professional and Linguistic Assessments Board (PLAB) test.

    1. Belize
      St Matthew's University School of Medicine
      Grace University School of Medicine
    2. Cayman Islands
    3. St Matthews University School of Medicine (this only applies to those who graduated after 31 December 2010)
    4. Cook Islands
      St Mary's Medical School
    5. Liberia
      Saint Luke School of Medicine
    6. Nigeria
    7. Ambrose Ali University (this only applies to those who graduated after 10 December 2010)
    8. Ebonyi State University (this only applies to those who graduated after 10 December 2010)
    9. Igbinedion University College of Health Sciences (this applies only to those who graduated on or after 1 April 2010)
    10. Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) (this only applies to those who graduated after 10 December 2010)
    11. Nnamdi Azikiwe Ubiversity (this only applies to those who graduated after 10 December 2010)
    12. University of Benin (this applies only to those who graduated on or after 1 April 2010)
    13. University of Jos (this only applies to those who graduated after 10 December 2010)
    14. University of Maiduguri (this only applies to those who graduated after 10 December 2010)
    15. University of Nigeria (this only applies to those who graduated after 10 December 2010)
    16. University of Port Harcourt (this only applies to those who graduated after 10 December 2010)
    17. Senegal
      St Christopher Ibrahima Mar Diop College of Medicine
    18. Seychelles
      University of Seychelles American Institute of Medicine (USAIM)
    19. St Lucia
      Spartan Health Sciences University (this only applies to graduates who started their course of study on or before 31 December 2008. Refer to case-by-case list for those who started their course of study on or after 1 January 2009)

    No..I'm afraid you're wrong..I've already spoken to the GMC...

    I think YOU need to call them up!

    In addition I've received the attached letter that the GMC have sent me...

    Isn't SMU run by the same corp that run SABA and MUA? According to the GMC websites the MD qualification given by both schools are acceptable. The SABA and MUA programs are similar and the schools share the Dean of basic sciences. How different is the SMU program ? Its also interesting to note the SMU program is the most expensive of the 3

    No need to worry any longer St. Matthew's, Grand Cayman students
