    "Arrest of J.D.
J.D. being taken away by detectives. The five fires in the free zone caused the society a shock and inflicted damages that are in the multimillions.
WILLEMSTAD — In connection with the five fires in the free zone that took place between November 2006 and February of this year, businessman ****** J.D. (48) is arrested near his home at the Perseusweg on suspicion of arson in conjunction with others and insurance fraud, confirmed the Public Prosecutor, who doesn’t exclude more arrests. J.D. is the first suspect in this case. No house search was conducted.
The OM empathetically talks about the fires, because on February 19 raged the fifth and last fire in a great part of the main building of Hermanos Lalo, one of the businesses of the J.D.'s-group in the free zone. The other four fires reduced the warehouses of Curinde to ashes, which were mainly rented by Lebanese entrepreneurs. Public enterprise Curinde manages the free Zone. Hermanos Lalo is a private property.
OM wrote to the insurance companies not long ago that they will probably finish off the investigation by the end of this year. Justice won’t announce the results until then. A team of 20 detectives started a big investigation in March of this year. Despite the fact that justice is now talking about more than one fire, the criminal investigation was split up from the beginning; the first four fires versus the fifth fire, that on many points is different than the others. A reliable source mentioned that J.D. had reinsured the building for three times the original insured amount and for this he used a dubious appraisal report. He did this shortly before the last fire. Reinsuring a building after four previous fires is not strange. The owner simply doesn’t want to take the risk. But it was already clear at that time that the suspect had financial problems. Besides, the family has kicked J.D. out of the family business Hermanos Lalo, of which one part was sold to Ganesh. But due to the current investigation, the insurance company has not paid any money yet. J.D’s lawyer *****, who is abroad, reacted very surprised on the arrest. “I have no information and cannot say anything about it. It seems like the OM has reasons for the arrest; a little late though.”
The investigation wassupposedly focused on J.D. due to his financial situation. Most people say that his arrest following last week’s sale of the Brionplein hotel cannot be a coincidence. The bank threatened to auction the hotel complex on Monday, because J.D. was not paying the mortgage. This auction was canceled by the judge due to a private sale that took place last week. The suspect also owns the former St. Martinus Institution and he is shareholder in the St. Martinus University that is established in that building. He also owns the property of the former West-End, Stelaris, and Anna Bay view.
Before the development on the Rif, J.D. competed for the development of a miniature park. This turned into a conflict and baseball player withdrew his plans for a new baseball stadium on the location where the current Johnny Vrutaal stadium is. But J.D. was financially not capable to realize this plan and neither that of a new West-End complex.
    FINANCIAL PROBLEMS
The rumours about J.D.’s financial problems are not from today. It was kind of confirmed when lawyer **** publicly announced on behalf of an in Hong Kong established business, Mulitex Limited that in connection with a long-term debt, they will put a lien on five corporations of J.D. and his family.
Other businesses in which J.D. has shares are Hermanos Lalo, AA Traders, Casa Roberto Freezone, and Edilu Freezone and they created this debt. These debtors already had entered an installment agreement with Mulitex in China two years ago, but they didn’t comply with their obligations.
In connection with the debts, J.D. had mortgaged shares in five partnerships in real estate in Curacao to creditor Mulitex. These mortgaged shares are in Galleries Commercial Plaza, Belvedere, West-End Development, Salinja Galleries, and New Asia Corporation. "

None of the above are relevant.

So, lawsuits, bankrupcy, 13 million in debt, auction and now owner in jail. Is this a medical school?

None of the above are relevant.

St Martinus is a good medical school, and better than any of those at which I taught.

JD was not arrested for poor practices at running a medical school, but I can assure you that the men associated with the bogus schools at which I taught certainly were.

All of the above are crutial for reputation of an education institution!!!!!
I cant even imagine what kind of schools you taught at if St. Martinus is better.

Let me just show you an email I got yesterday from a friend studying at this school:

    "Hi ******
Sorry I coudnt get back to you sooner but we had exams and I was quity busy. The situation here is dramatic. Students and profs are extremelly worried about the future. Thats the history of SMU for the last few months:
    - About 15 students transfered out to CMU, many are still fighting for tuition refund. I've heard they r preparing a class lawsuit.
    - School's building was auctioned /13million $ debt/
    - School's equipment was auctioned /office equipment, microscopes, projectors, anatomy lab/
    - students that transfered out coming to the school with local police to get their refund, docs, etc.
    - about 2 weeks ago water and electicity was cut off
    - 2 months ago Dean of Basic Science Dr. E.E left
    - week ago Dean of Clinical Science Dr. H.S left
    - Teachers dont get paid, I would assume they'll leave soon too
    - Students started requesting transcripts, preparing to transfer
    - and yesterday a big shoot - owner got arrested for fraud!!!!
Im telling you honestly dont even consider SMU B/C the school is already dead. I'll be lucky if i get my transcript and get out of here.
Hope this helps, well it has to. Dont send anything to my email at SMU. Use *******@gmail.com.

    Good luck ******"

sad to hear of the closing of St Martinus.

All of the above are crutial for reputation of an education institution!!!!!

SJMS IUHS UHSA for starters were all worse than St Martinus.

lawsuits, bankrupcy, 13 million in debt, auction and now owner in jail. These speak to problems of one of the main shareholders.

a medical school has to do with the teaching of medicine—St Martinus had a good program even though teachers were paid late there in my time. At SJMS many folk were NOT PAID AT ALL!

I am sad to hear of the closing of St Martinus.

Can you please STOP comparing schools! those schools you mentioned are way better schools than St martinus, so please stop it at least they don't have problems like you guys have! Owner is bankrupt and other financial problems and more things to mentioned so don't go there, you will humiliate yourself.

On the other hand at least MD students get their credits, but what about the Premed students??? I know as a Fact that the premed of St martinus can't transfer to many schools

    please answer back

I think once they get their transcripts, even premed students would be able to transfer. The question is: will they get transcritps?

    The story goes on:
    "J.D. STILL DETAINED
Businessman and project developer J.D. (48) is behind bars in the police cells (block 1) of the Bon Futuro-jail. He was arrested in his home at Perseusweg yesterday on suspicion of arson in conjunction with others and insurance fraud. The arrest was part of the criminal investigation into the five fires that raged in the free zone between November of last year and February of this year. J.D. was taken into custody at 14:00. The district attorney will have to request the examining magistrate tomorrow (two days after the arrest) to extent the detention with eight days. The examining magistrate will allow this if there are sufficient grounds. J.D.'s current lawyer, ***** returned to the island late yesterday afternoon and was going to visit his client in prison today to discuss his case.
The Public Prosecutor neither confirms nor denies the rumours that J.D.'s uncle, ***** is also wanted by justice. The criminal case against ***** for the possession of fire arms and for laundering of drug-money via his businesses Casa Roberto and Hermanos Lalo in de free zone was conditionally dismissed in 2005. ***** had to deposit 150.000 guilders in the criminality fund and do 120 hours of community services."

    No response ??

There is supposedly total drama and chaos at martinus.
We usually get a fast & flagrant response from the only school official.
    What's happening??
Does the school still exist ? And I don't mean if they are still students.
I mean has the school been sold along with the entire Brionplein property from the sale last week to the dutch private investors, or have the new owners agreed to let the school still rent out the facilities ?

No news from Martinus since the owner has been sleeping in a cell
