There are places on the website under housing that are much more reasonable than this. My apartment combined (2 people, 2 bedrooms) runs $900 everything included (water, electric, internet). So my advice would be to shop around. Since you are coming in Sept. there will be plenty of spots vacated by the leaving class. The best places are at Island Harbor, Sandy Ground, and in The Valley near the most popular restraunts and shopping. Island Harbor is close to Shoal Bay Beach -world renowned scuba and swimming. I found this place last semester and I will stay here until I finish Basic Science. For a roommate be sure and request the Buddy List that the university provides. I got mine about three months before the semester began when nearly all accepted students were listed. You are going to have a blast. Good luck.

    hi!
@ euniqueone03 im actually attending st james school of medicine in sept 2011 as well and I am looking for a room mate too!

@AnguillaMD....ok just wanted to know if 900 was combined b/w you and your roommate? so is it 300 per person or 900 per person? And I looked on the website for some student housing but they said that most of the housing is driving distance. some said 15 min driving distance or 10 min driving distance. is your apartment walking distance...or do you rent a car?...please let me know, id really appreciate it!

Hello Toorr! Congrats...The buddy list comes out two months before classes start so you will have more options to choose from as far as roommates are concerned. I am also looking for roommates but I am still awaiting the list. I am already interested in one apartment in Anguilla but it is a bit pricey. The housing on the SJSM website is available BUT you will not be able to put a deposit down or know if it is available until closer to September. I know this because I have already tried to inquire about housing and that was the information told to me by the contact info on the housing website. As far as transportation is concerned.....the Anguilla campus has the benefit of having a shuttle bus. Because the island is small, the shuttle will pick you up and take you back home from classes ONLY. It is approx $30/month for the shuttle. If I find a roommate...I was looking for someone that would be interested in splitting car rental (in order to get groceries and etc.). It seems like everything is no further than 15/20min away from school. There are a variety of options on the website but also there are more that just are not posted. I am interested in an apartment but it is pretty pricey even if I split the cost so I still have some thinking to do. I hope this helps.

Also I am pretty sure AnguillaMD is saying the total month rent is $900. I also saw quite a few apartments that were that price so therefore each person would pay $300 per person. People usually go down a week before and find something. Of course the housing website does not list ALL apartments in Anguilla so you might get better options just closer to time.

exactlyy...i know that is what i was planning on doing..going to bonaire like 2 weeks early just to get settled and stuff.
ok...are u aware if they have a shuttle system in bonaire or is it just anguilla do u think? it says no where on the anguilla housing page that apartments are walking distance..just that they are close whereas for bonaire it says they are walking distance. im just worried about that! the thing is i read that they have a good taxi system and renting a car for the entire month wen I would probably need it a couple of times a month isnt...feesible for me...=[...
do you mind telling me how much renting a car would be per month? 300 and if u find a room mate to split the car rent with..it would be 150 right? just if you can let me know, i would really appreciate it =]
Thanks so much! You really did help me out =]]

Toorr I am happy to help. I misunderstood. I thought you were going to Anguilla. Bonaire does NOT have a shuttle system. Anguilla only has a shuttle system through the school. I was accepted to the Bonaire campus but then I switched to the Anguilla campus b/c I wanted more options for amenities. I figure since I will be away from the states I need to be as comfortable as possible. Lol. I am a female so my concern was getting back and forth to school safely. The campus is safe but I still would like to take the proper safety precautions. I thought the bus shuttle was something that was definitely important to me. I didnt want to worry about car rental when my classes were concerned (anything can happen). I am not to sure which car rental places are the best but that will be something you will find out when you get there. If you want closer to a luxury model...you are looking at approx $400-$500 per month and if you just want something to get around and your not concerned about the look and luxury of the car (which is not important since it is only to help you get your essentials back and forth from home) then you are looking at approx $300-$375. If I find a roommate...I would just rent a vehicle around $300 and split it evenly (depending on how many roommates I get...ex: $300 including me---> $150 per person if 2 people or $100 per person if 3 people) .On the housing website it does not say that the apartments are walking distance but there are definitely apartments that are walking distance to the school. Like I listed above...all apartments are not listed on the housing website its just a handful that the school may work with. Once you actually get there 1-2 weeks early....of course you will find other apartments and who knows...you probably might find one thats not even on our housing website. I also heard the taxi system is very good but in order not to save a little more....the shuttle at Anguilla was more practical to me then taking a taxi to and from class every morning. I know students in Bonaire have said they usually walk or bike ride. Everyone is different so you just have to think about what is good for you. If you switch to Anguilla...it is approx $1200-$1500 more per semester onto your tuition but thats still a great price for more and updated amenities. Bonaire is also great it is just an older campus. I only switched because I wanted more options and the shuttle sounded great to me. I am trying to be as worry free as possible. Lol. Also try not to look for roommates on this website...email your counselor and let them know that you would like to be placed on the list for people in need of a roommate. That way your counselor will email you a list of names and emails of all people accepted for your class that are in need of roommates two months before classes start....this will ensure that you are safe and that these same students WILL attend SJSM. Value Md is a great site but it is a site that anyone can access...your safety comes first :-) Again I hope this helped. My username is also my actual email address so feel free to email me or post more threads here. Take care.
