    Md1's experience so far/advice

    Advertisements

I just want you guys to know who are looking at the school
that so far I am very pleased with the school.
My only hardship on the island was finding housing. But once you meet people and talk to even the locals you will find a place.
Honestly calling and trying before you get to the island is not a good idea
thats what i did and you really dont get to know where your living and how far it is.
COME AND LOOK AT IT before you take anything.
just rent a hotel for 3-4 nights before school starts and you should be fine.

I like the school and its everything i expected.
    Nothing fancy at all
we got 1 syllabus for 50 people and the bathroom is an outhouse (yes its true)
the professors have different accents so its hard to understand some of them
but im sure itll get better over time.

tomorrows the first day so ill let you know how it goes.

as someone who did there research
i think st james is worth the money and if you cant get into ross or sgu saba or the medical school at st martinus
    come to st james
(AUA and st matthews even though have ny rotation are having a hard time keeping accreditation in some states and ALSO COST 3 times as much)
Im not someone who works for the school or is lying about whatever
    Im someone probally like you
who didnt get into sgu and was told to retake classes by ross
and just wants to start med school

after all my reseach and experience and as someone who has to pay her own way (of course if i had more money i might have gone to AUA or St matts)
st james is worth is def worth applying too.

the student community is awesome here
you get alot of help and advice from older people
and the locals so far are also kind
Ill update through out the semester and let people know how its going.
but apply for fall sooner then later if this is something you want to do
and need a back up school

Thank you for posting your experience so far. It helps.

Is it worth visiting the island a month ahead of semester start? Or is it best to come a week before school starts? My concern is housing and some other logistics.

Definitely not a month, you're right

I was thinking may be for a week, a month before the school starts; so that I can line up housing.

    Thanks.

that depends on the semesters... if u come to the Sept. semester, i would consider going during the time when there are no classes at SJSM... cause that is possibly ur best chance of getting any room well at all... u may get away with coming a week or even on time during the Jan. semester... In May, u will have no problems... most likely
