    SJSM (Anguilla) Vs. MUA

    Advertisements

    Hi All,

I got into both SJSM (Anguilla) and MUA for January 2014 and I'm trying to decide which school to go to. With SJSM legal issues with the Bonaire campus, I am not sure if anything will roll over to Anguilla.

The main things I am looking at are:
SJMS has rotation in the US, and is cheaper.
    No NY and Cali approval
    Has Legal Issues

MUA has NY approval and is linked to SABA which means that they will probably get Cali approval and U.S Federal Loans. In fact during my interview with MUA I asked about the student loans and they said they have applied and are hoping to get them by early next year.
Good U.S Rotations (More sites than SJSM
    No Cali approval

    Any advice would be appreciated

Cheaper in what sense? Yes it's 32k for 16 semesters but the clinical aspect is 50k..that's 80k total out of pocket.

Actually looking at the tuition numbers ONLY, MUA is $27,500.00 more expensive over the lifetime of the program. Below are the direct links to the tuition break downs.

Anguilla Tuition and Fees (BONAIRE is shutting down)
    MUA Tuition and Fees

Tuition: Basic Science Program per semester for St. James $7,150.00 * 4 = $28,600.00
Tuition: Clinical Science Program per semester for St. James $8,200.00 * 6 = $49,200.00
    TOTAL TUITION $77,800.00

Tuition: Basic Science Program per semester for MUA $11,000.00 * 5 = $55,000.00
Tuition: Clinical Science Program per semester for MUA $12,575.00 * 4 = $50,300.00
    TOTAL TUITION $105,300.00

Anguilla has no NVAO legal issues, we have nothing to do with the Dutch we are a British island.
Seems like money is the deciding factor, so want to include costs of living, traveling back and forth, question bank access and step prep? Tack on another 30k to the basic sciences and 40k to clinical and then do the math.

I'm leaving in 36 days for AICM and I've calculated a total out of pocket cost of a little under 50k. yup, that's right, med school life is very pricey folks. If Cali is your home state then go to MUA otherwise just hit the books and get it done from where ever they give you the opportunity.
