    SJSM, Bonaire Fall 2013

Hey everyone! I'm starting in the Fall 2013 semester at the Bonaire campus. I was wondering if anyone else will be going there in the fall as well. It would be really great to get to know you all. We could exchange ideas/thoughts/advice about the school and what to do in general, etc. Let me know!
(p.s. I'm going from nyc. anyone else from there?)

The rumors is that Bonaire campus is going to lose its accreditation soon. so graduates will not be able to apply for ECFMG certificate, which allows IMGs to practice medicine in US.

I am also attending for Fall 2013 at Bonaire.

What is this gossip about the school closing?
I have not heard anything about this

    Kmcarthur,

congrats on your first step toward the big dream!

there is a good chance I will be one of your classmates. I gave them my $1000 reservation.

the gossip, which was true at the time, was that bonaire loses its accreditation this october. however the school was able to get a 5-year extension to renew its accreditation under the new government. by that time, you will like be an MD and in residency already. but if anything, bonaire will become acquilar 's satelite campus. but it is unlike, according to the school officials, that it will not get accreditation.

btw, i think it would be helpful to some prospective students if i forward the answrs i got from the school:

tuition is $5500/semester the first 2 years. (first year is actually $7500= $1000 reservation + $1000 adminstrative +$5500)

the schools got a shuttle, but not very reliable for your schedule.

housing range from $500 to $1000 monthly. and living expense depends on your style

bonaire is not cali nor new york approved. so if you want to become a doctor there, you would have to work as physicians in another state for some time and hope to be able to transfr your liscence.

immediately after md 2, you will attend a fifth semester to study for the USMLE1 before going to Chicago (only) for your clinical studies.

This is all good to know. I am Canadian and planning on coming back here. So you know if the school is trying to get cali and new york approved?

The "shuttle" is a local bus service that the school has contracted. It's like a ghetto school bus used for tourists. It stops along the route to school in the mornings, so stand by the side of the road and it will pick you up.

housing range from $500 to $1000 monthly. and living expense depends on your style
Maybe more, maybe less. If you can get a couple roommates, you might save a little. But other things add up. Electricity is effing EXPENSIVE! Internet service sucks.

Seriously, just give up wanting to be a doctor in California if you go to this school. If that is a huge concern for you, go somewhere else. This school is merely one means to the end of becoming an MD.

Though it cost all you have, get understanding.

I cannot answer that question for you, ibbie4u. It was good enough for me, at the time, to meet the goals I had. It may or may not be the answer for you - only you can answer that for yourself by doing your own due diligence and soul searching.
