    Scholarships or Grants?

    Advertisements

So far my parents have been helping me pay tution in undergrad. But starting in med school i want to start paying for myself. Are there any scholarships or grants available for carrib. students? Through the school? Through other organizations?

    Thanks.

there are some through schools, as far as org. goes, im not too sure. most students get their funding via loans (either federal and/or private)

there are academic and financial aid scholarships available through the school but you have to apply for them. applying to SGU does not automatically make you elegible for the scholarships. even so the most you can get is 50K in total for the four years.

Or maybe Caribbean students are eligible for more loans than north american students? In the chancellor's post-ivan conference, he stated there were a few caribbean students whose entire medical schooling was paid for. In january 2005 fewer scholarhships than normal were given out due to the financial toll the hurricane had on the school. Hopefully that has changed. Its a real pain in the gluteal to fill out the paperwork and get info like how much $ your parents make. But atleast for me it paid off in the end (9K scholarship).
