List of Questions I was Asked in Interview

    Advertisements

Hi everyone. I just had my interview today. It was very relaxed and casual. There were no transcript/MCAT/academic record specific questions. Some questions asked of me:

    1. How did you learn about SGU?

    2. What does your pre-medical advisor think of SGU?

    3. How do you plan to adapt in a third world country?

    4. How do you plan on financing your education?

    5. Can you tell me about your volunteer experience?

    6. Can you give me the single/most important reason why you want to be a doctor?

    7. What do you think is the most important issue facing healthcare today? (In the USA)

I can't think of anymore, but I can say that the interviewer was reading of a list given to him by SGU. He did not ask any questions that were specific to my application, or that did not appear in his list.

In regards to the essay, the interviewer gave me a piece of paper with the 3 questions previously posted on this forum. He said that I had ten minutes to respond to any one of the questions.

Overall, I feel that unless you do something really outrageous in the interview, the interview will not really make or break your application. The interviewer asked generic questions that really provide no basis for acceptance/rejection. Though the interview might contribute to your application when it is reviewed by the committee, I think your stats carry far more weight than what your interviewer said about you. But that ofcourse, is just my guess.

Couple of questions.... they probably both have obvious answers...

    1) If you're doing a regional interview, in what type of location does the applicant and interviewer meet?
    2) Like US medical school interviews, does the applicant wear a suit to the interview or is it slightly more laid back?

that depends on where the interviewer is at. i had mine at a hospital because my interviewer works there.
and wear a suit. the interview itself is more laid back but you should wear a suit still. first impression makes a difference. come in with a nice suit=professional, come in with a short sleeve tshirt and a jean=unprofessional.

I had my interview in Starbucks in Manhattan. I wore a shirt/tie/dress shoes & pants. i thought a suit might be too much. my interviewer was wearing a dress shirt but no tie.

the place of interview is based upon the interviewer. wherever is convenient for him or her is where you will have the interview.

personally i thought the starbucks was not really the appropriate place to have an interview. a hospital/medical or office setting i think would be both more professional and appropriate.

    1. I went to the interviewer which in my case was about 180 miles away. He chose a little coffee shop that was a bit fancier than a Starbucks.
    2. I was planning on wearing a suit but my interviewer told me specifically not to wear a suit so I just wore a shirt and a tie.
