off-campus housing? / grand anse singles? / married student housing?

    Advertisements

I'm a last-minute admittee and concerned about the housing options. Specifically I'm 54 years old, haven't had a roommate for years except my wife, who probably is not coming. I'm very disciplined/ascetic, daily yoga, 2x/day runner, heavy studier, can't tolerate TV, noise, clutter, comings and goings late at night, etc.

I'm considering petitioning for off-campus exception. Is this advisable in terms of availability, cost, isolation, etc? I can certainly ride my bike up to 20 minutes to get to and from campus? Also, if I could get a Grand Anse single what are they like? Other option I'm thinking of is getting the married student housing for one semester just to have my own place. Lastly if there is someone with similar sensibilities who is looking for a roommate, let me know.

    Thanks

well...i would call housing probabaly A.R. to get the info. as far as TV ...dont worry..nome of the rooms on campus has TV.
off campus housings are available at this time but they might be a bit more expensive, for example a friend of mine is paying about $1000 US for a 1 bedroom apt, but it has everything inc cable tv and its like a penthouse man! so i guess its worth it if u wanna live like hugh hefner. and i would advise finding a housing along the bus route. wouldnt suggest riding bikes in the gnd with their traffic and roads.

    A Few Suggestions

I am also a mature student who lived on campus one term and off the rest. I would not even consider living on campus unless you can get a single room.

If you stay on campus go for the "true single" rooms like those in the Superdorms, not the quads where you share a kitchen (as you will still have roommates there). You will pay more for the "married" singles but it is an option if nothing else is available to you.

The housing personnel on campus weren't helpful to me in securing single housing. The lottery only got me more roomate options.

My advice is to find good housing off campus and stay there from Term 1 on. It can be done with a little effort. Almost anything off campus (even nice places) cost less than the campus single housing. Housing personnel won't care as they won't have have to talk to you every time you come in looking for a single. It doesn't matter where you live off campus as everything is close. You will have privacy, not have to store your stuff between terms, and leave from/arrive on the island on your own timetable.

Don't live in Grand Anse, it will not be up to your standard.

    Hope this helps.

    Housing issue

    JOhnSpirit,

I am a first term med student living off campus. I am married with a newborn son, but my wife and son are not with me right now. They will be coming down for visits throughout the year.

I came to grenada on July 25th to start looking for housing. It was VERY difficult as not many places are available right now. Additionally, there is no good consolidated place for all the housing options available, it is really more by word of mouth. So, here are some options I've seen.

-check all the apartments just off of campus on the main road. I noticed a few of them had some availability as of 8/3.

    - There is a dirt road across the street from bananas and immediately across the street from Sea View Road. Walk up the dirt road, you will pass an apartment building on the right, go around the corner and you will come to an apartment complex with a Red Roof, I don't remember the man's number, but last week he had some apartments available.

    - Aside from these places, I have not seen much else to choose from. Finding an apartment now is very hard. MUCH more housing will come available in Dec/Jan as the students leave grenada for their 5th term in St.Vincent. So it may be necessary for you find something to get you through till then.

Also, it is very difficult finding these apartments without a vehicle, rent one for the week or if you know someone who has a car ask them to help you. I had a friend help me and he was a life saver!!

Hope this helps. PM me with questions.

Is this a record for digging up old threads? ... I think it might just be.
