Why are you asking? Forging references doesn't seem like a good idea too me...

My friend, an applicant, had that happen at SGU and we wanted to know if it was routine or not (the referee notified the applicant since they are good friends too). Please do not hastily make accusations; fraud is certainly un-acceptable and not a desired attribute for a future physician. Thanks!

Sorry didn't mean to sound accusatory, without the subsequent explanation the original post could have been taken to mean that.

I agree that fradulent behavior is not a desireable attribute :-)

for me they did, but that was because the prof didn't include the university letterhead
