This will probably come back and bite me on my butt

    Advertisements

ok so we are all done with finals(us first termers that is) and i don't have any complaints about how i did. but it seems to me that a lot of people missed a B or an A by no more than 4points (thats out of 350 possible points) and proffesors refused them the high grade. I mean sure if you do it for one person you have to do it for all the people that are in the same boat as them but. If you aren't going to help people out, why tell the class on the first day of classes that if you are a few points away from a grade and you went to all the (labs for histo) have gone to all the living anatomy labs (for anatomy) they would bump your grade up. so why is it that people with that missed a B or an A by 4 points who went to all the labs didn't get his graded bumped up? and then were denied that the professors actualy said anything like that.

I just wanted to take a bigger pole i guess if you ever missed a higher grade by a few points have the profs given you those points if so what did u say to them to get those extra points???
also if anyone is pissed off about missing the grade they wanted or needed by a few points i would like to hear from you too.

    thanks

    grade points

I had a friend two semesters ago who failed physiology with a 69.3. The reason that the professors would not bump him up the the higer grade, was because of how well the class did overall. Somtetimes they would bump you up to that higher grade, but that would only be if overall the class did badly, and they had alot of questions to throw out. But most of the times they are really strict and will not budge an inch.

There's not too much you can do about missing points. I missed my high grade in Physio by 5 points, and my high grade in Neuro by 3 points. Basically, if they don't throw out enough questions (I think there was a thread on this ridiculousness in Neuro at some point...) and the grade distribution fits the curve they want, it's too bad, too sad, you don't get the grade you want. And it sucks. Believe me, it sucks - I think the best way to think about it is to hope that you learned the material the best that you could and try to retain it for Step 1.

Sorry if this isn't too consoling - but just be happy that you're through with first term, you passed, and most importantly, you get to go HOME, unlike the rest of us 3rd and 4th termers stuck down here. Plus, I hear there is a professor in Vinnie's who tells you the first day of class to forget bonus points, forget curves, now you're taking a real medical school class. YIKES! Although I'm not sure which class it is - uppertermers, care to support/deny? So chin up, get a good break in this summer, and come back ready to kick the crap out of 2nd term.

You played your music way too loud in your Grand Beach Room.

while 4 points out of 300 may not seem like a lot, but the numbers are the numbers......if you get by with 4 points, then what about that guy with 5 points? or then the 6 points? this is grad school, it's real life--hard for professors to make all sorts of exceptions and whatnot. they have to stick to the numbers, and that's the end of the story. stop worrying about it, go home and relax!

Good, speaks to the integrity of the professors. They didn't GIVE anyone a higher grade. Those who got an A or B know they deserved it. G

    1 point

There has been 1 person before that has failed pathology by 1 point. Yes, a 13 credit class has be done again just because of 1 point.

OK, the fact still remains that the person FAILED the class. If you start giving people free points where do you draw the line? What about the guy who failed by 2 points, or 3 points? Is that OK? Is that fair to the guy who failed by 4 points if you still fail him? You pass the class when you have a passing grade. If you didn't pass, you didn't. G

    exxxxxxaaaaaaaaaaactly!

i missed an A in a 5 credit class this term by one point. one point on one exam. whatever, what are you going to do? it sucks, i hated it, but i can understand that they can't change it. i DO think they should round .5 up, and .49999999999 down, when a lot of the times they dont round at all, but I feel that way because that just seems to be the way the rest of the world runs. some professors will round up, others wont. again, its upsetting, and i was pissed, but in the long run it really doesn't matter that much anyway....
