    Advertisements

hey upper-termers, do they weigh the carry-bags at the airport here? Im doing my best to keep my checked bag at/below 70 lbs but that carryon i have is up to 58 lbs already If they weigh the carry-ons, looks like im going back to storage!

    carry on

hey, are you still allowed to have one personal item like a backpack (laptop) or purse and a carry-on with these international flights? I read the packet and it said one carryon but I dont know if the backpack counts.

    re: carryon weight......

I'm guessing you're flying with AA?

they weigh it at the airport. If you are overweight, the guy sometimes asks you for a "tip" to let it on - of course if it was me I would just make sure it's underweight......

the carryon doesn't have to fit in the overhead compartment - they can check it at the terminal door, then give it to you when you arrive. Most carryon's aren't the correct size to fit in the overhead bins, and sometimes the bins are filled already......

yeah - you are allowed a 'personal item' (in addition to the carryon) I usually cram mine with heavy books (i call my laptop bag my personal item)

    Cheers,

Yeah if it is AA then your carry on may be weighed. With the other airlines, Liat and Carribean star they dont really pay much attetion. To save myself the trouble of all that, I usually leave my carryon on a seat at the back of the line, and stand so my eye is on it at all times. That way they never see my carry on. The most they do if when I reach the plane and my carryon is too large, is that they put it in the hold and I collect it immediately when I land.

Hey ...well I fly on air jamaica...and we are allowed 2 suitcases 70lbs each...they are more strict on that ...at the GND airport they didnt even weigh my carry on...I was thinking about that the whole time...like I could have put more in there lol...and I also am allowed to carry a purse or a school bag...but they examined every suitcase very carefully....
