    Can I survive?

    Advertisements

I am a first term MD and I just received my first exam grade (51.14 %) which I failed due to not preparing well because of being super occupied with a lot of issues in the first 3 weeks. What are my chances now to survive the term? Any tips of how to do it? Anyone here has failed their first exam and ended up doing good ?

To be quite frank, you need to re-evaluate you readiness for med school. You know you are in the Caribbean as a 2nd chance, thus "being occupied by a lot of issues" is not a good excuse, except for maybe an unexpected family emergency. Everybody is also "occupied by a lot of issues". You don't have to answer this on the forum, but you need to have a plan moving forward, and find out what you did wrong and correct it ASAP. I would also not go into the 2nd exam with a high probability of failing the course, as I believe it might be SGU's policy for automatic dismissal after one class fail. I would talk to SGU and see what your options are, but do not chance it and take the final and only to have you fail the course.

I recently finished term 5 and in my opinion, the first two exams of term 1 were the easiest (with the last 3 being considerably more difficult). The good news is that (to my recollection) the first two exams are worth less than the latter 3. The bad news is that it doesn't get any easier from here. You need to find out what it is that caused you to not perform well and make the necessary changes to improve. 50% is pretty low for any test here if you can't correct the issues now, you are in for a really unpleasant stay down there.
