    St. George's University Timeline

    Advertisements

    Hello all,

I am going to be an incoming CFP student at SGU this spring, meaning I will be officially beginning the MD program in August of 2018. I just wanted to ask if someone here could give me some advice about the USMLE step 1 timeline for August start students. I know for students who start in January, they get a few months off before having to sit for step 1. For students who start in August, however, how much time do we get so study before we have to sit for step 1? I have heard that term 5 ends in May and rotations start in April. Is it possible that they would make us sit for step 1 before we've even finished term 5? I'm sure I am mistaken, but I would like some insight on this from anyone who has been through it. Thanks!

Didn't work out. I prefer to do CFP. I've been out of school too long and need the science foundation to be successful.

I started in the January class and graduated a while ago, but from what I remember, rotations started at different times. Both classes can't start at the same time - there is not enough room. My group started in early May. But I know that the August class had a later start. The January class has more time to study for Step 1 compared to the August class, but the August class still has some time to study.

If you just started CFP, I wouldn't stress out about Step 1 now. It's good that it's on your radar, but I don't think you should be too concerned with logistics just yet. Buy the First Aid book for Term 1 so you can start getting used to it. I wish I did that instead of waiting until Term 4. Good luck!
