sorry to hear i am actually in the same situation. I failed a 2 credit and a 1 credit class and my average of the entire year is 80.11% but i'm being put up for dismissal. The worst part is i never deceled before. I did end up appealing the dismissal but i guess now waiting is the hard part.

Try appealing, you do have a valid reason. I am appealing as well for term 2.

i had deceled anatomy knowing I wouldn't do well, but on the morning of the biochem final i received a call that a close family member had died.
I thought id be able to push through the biochem final, but unfortunately i didn't do well and failed and now I think the policy is if you fail a class
    >4 credits you're dismissed.

    should I appeal or withdraw?
I don't really understand the consequence of withdrawal - can i retake MCAT and reapply to other med schools?

I'm not a bad student, it's just been a tough term in terms of adjustment, loss of relationships, and death

I can sympathize; my grandfather died 2 days before my micro midterm..but it gave me more motivation to kick ***. Appeal and see what happens.

This may seem insensitive and perhaps a bit late, but family members should be told to avoid telling you someone had died right before an exam. Maybe telling them in advance that if something comes up that you can not change, wait until the break.

I had a parent get really sick, so I know how distracting it can be.

A lawyer died? Or a family member died and a lawyer is being contacted? I'm so confused.

Sounds like a family member died and the lawyer called to inform them.

Though the numbers are probably higher than I really know, everyone I've known to go through the dismissal process has been given another chance. Some of them had no compelling reason to be kept beyond their humility over failing the class that they did, and a strategic plan for what they were going to change to ensure it doesn't happen again. Though I don't have the personal experience with appeals that some in this thread have mentioned, I think that if I were in your situation I would appeal. But then I would also take whatever drastic steps I had to take to make sure I'm as far away from the failing cutoff as humanly possible.
