    Financial Aid spreadsheet

    Advertisements

    So,
I tried to make a spreadsheet to see how much money i would owe after 4 years of school and 4 years of residency if i were to make no payments.
I also assumed that i would be taking out the max amount per semester/year.

Please correct me if i did the math incorrectly.

You are going to be making some sort of payment during residency...

Isn't the government getting rid of subsidized graduate school loans after July 1, 2012?

I did similar calculation a year ago and i also hit the final $400k number. I think your estimate is pretty accurate. I also considered waving the payments during residency because I plan to have a family and with after-tax income, almost nothing is leftover to make a dent on the interest.

You really should do the income based repayment plan during residency. 10 years after paying while working for a not for profit clinic or hospital & the remainder of the loans will be forgiven that are not paid. Residency counts as part of the 10 years. The 10 years has to be straight, not a few years here then a few down the road. You do have to pay income tax on the part that was forgiven. If you have private loans, you can get with a debt relief company to negotiate your loans down 40-60% (I would do this now, but can afford the $1500/month payment to get the rest paid off in 6 years during residency).
