Thread: Housing for Term 1 and 2

Most Term 1 students are placed in a shared dorm: 1 room, 2 beds, kitchenette, bathroom. Some do get placed in a triple where you have your own bdrm, but share a kitchen/bathroom. You have to reapply every term in the housing lottery. If you get housing, you can specify if you want to stay in the same place, and who you want to live with, but its not guaranteed. Neither is the lottery. If you aren't chosen to get housing, you can go on the wait list. I have heard horror stories about the wait list, but I have never heard of anyone not getting some sort of housing. (You have to be flexible.)

You can specify preferred housing for first term, but you guys are the last to be assigned housing, so whatever is available is what there is.

Thanks a lot for the info. I guess after first term it may be more convenient to find a place off campus so I won't have to continue worry about moving every term?

Also, a bit off topic, but do you guys know anyone who brought a guitar to Grenada? I've been playing all my life, and I really want to bring an acoustic along for strumming every now and then. If so, how is it done? Brought along with luggage or shipped separately? Thanks for the replies.

So does that mean, if you were to apply for an en-suite room (i.e your own bedroom and bathroom) and a shared kitchentte, there is no gurantee that you will be getting it? does that also mean you just enter a couple of choices in the lottery and the odds of getting an en-suite room is the same as getting a shared room? Is there any other way that you can actually request and get hold of an en-suite room?

There are few dorms that have a personal bdrm/bath combo. Basically, Z dorm, and LMNOP. They are in high demand. I would be surprised if a first termer got one. (Your best chances are going in with 4 or 5 people, as Prash is doing, to up your chances.)

Housing works like this... you apply for whatever set up you want with the names of the people you want to live with ie triple, quad, Z dorm (5 ppl.) If you get housing, you are then given a contract where you specify which building you want to live in. So for a triple, you would choose SD3, 4, 5, or 6. and then I believe the wing you want. You don't get multiple choices.

It's either you get housing, or you don't. If you don't, you go on the wait list or look off campus. If you haven't already gotten the hint, you can't just ask for an en-suite and get it. If your that worried about roommates, get a studio off campus.

Neato. thanks for the definitive reply. got the entire picture now. This might sound a bit silly but exactly how do you find/meet people that you want to live with before the term even starts? is this particular forum the usual way?

I thought that it was mandatory for first year medics to live on campus. Or did I get this information wrong?

Not first year, first term. And its not just med, vet is also housed on campus for first term. (Students who did Foundations/MPH, are not required.) Most people are placed randomly. By the time you guys submit your paper work, there won't be any of these dorms available. People move, fail out, etc. and rooms do become available. For first termers, if you are put in a triple, it's most likely with two other upper termers.

If you trust a shipping company, ship it, if not, bring it as luggage.
