Question for Canadians - Action Plan / Statement of Need

    Advertisements

Hi, for those who are already in their residency and who is a Canadian, I was wondering if someone can post what they wrote for the Action Plan in order to get the statement of need. I tried to do a search, and I am confused about that it is that they want. If anyone has written it last year, would you mind helping?

    Thanks.

You might want to try this in the Canadian Students forum.

    Just to clear things up
I am an Ontario resident that went away for medical school and just recently got accepted into an American Residency program for Internal Medicine.
So, after reading this thread i wanted to clear up what actions i would take to come back to Ontario.
Please let me know if there is anything i should revise.

    1. Take USMLE Step III at the end of my PGY1 year.
    2. Take MCCQE 1 at the end of my PGY1 year.
    3. Take MCCQE 2 at the end of my PGY2 year.
    4. During my PGY3 in April, submit application for assessment of training, in order to sit for the RCPSC certification examination
    5. After residency pursue for a cheif resident position or fellowship year in order to meet the 4 year equivalence of the internal medicine programs in Canada.
    6. During April of my fellowship year, sit for the RCPSC certificate examination
    7. In August of my fellowship year, apply for American Board for certification
    8. Apply for a Certificate of Registration for Independent Practice from The College of Physicians & Surgeons of Ontario

    Or.............

    1. Take USMLE Step III during my PGY1 year.
    2. Write the American board exams for internal medicine and be board certified by the end of my PGY3 year.
    3. Obtain a certificate of registration from CPSO
    4. Practice in Ontario for 1 year under supervision of Internist.
    5. Undergo assessment after completing 1 year of supervised practice.

These are two options that I understand we can follow if we are Ontario residency attending residency in the US. Correct me if I'm wrong because I have just gathered information from various sites (including this one) on the internet. I am current completing the application for the J-1 Visa and am required to write an action plan for the statement of need from health canada. Some input would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you in advance
