    Relative that went to SGU

    Advertisements

Will SGU look more favorably upon my application since an uncle of mine gradauted from SGU several years ago? I thought about mentioning it in my PS, but if it isn't going to help, I probably won't. Thanks a lot.

I think that it would be a plus. You could frame your uncle's experiences in a way that would indicate your faith and confidence that SGU will enable you to fulfill your long term goals, and that you know what you're getting into. I made sure in my PS that I highlighted the fact that I spoke to several SGU grads regarding the quality of the education, the curriculum, and life on the island in general.

    Hope this helps!

    Have a great Memorial Day.

    hey

Yeah, don't use it as a crutch to get you into the school, and don't even give that impression.

Use it a basis for your faith in the school and the graduates it produces.

    Good luck!

It helps to the extent that you might have a better idea of IMG education than the average guy but its not going to overcome a real deficiency that otherwise would prevent you from getting in i would think. However there are places on your application you can mention it (Where did you hear abou sgu etc). If you mention it in your essay do it tactfully. it shouldnt be an essay about having an uncle who went to sgu. Perhaps in context of exactly what Ive mentioned already-learning about the school from a close family member. Oh, and if your uncle made a spectical of himself, dont do it! (not that i expect he did, but since i dont know ) Like the guy who did a rotation in the UK and decided peeing in the common room would be a good idea. If he's your uncle, neglect to mention it.

    Relative

Thanks for the advice! I'll check to make sure that he wasn't the one that did that in the UK...haha.

    Relative that went to SGU

i'm not sure if that is appropriate for your PS, but i would note that in the "how you found out about the school section" and also mention it to your interviewer.

relative who is an SGU graduate

I wouldn't want to add anything else from the great advice that you have been given; therefore, mention the uncle and make sure you know some stuff he told you about SGU, as it could come up on the interview.

I think, as a rule, anyone that is going to read your application would be happy to hear about your SGU connection as long as this person wasn't black-listed for trying to burn the school down or...... peeing in the common room in U.K.

Good luck but I am sure you will do fine. Just an instinct.

    Have a nice day.
