How has your 2 years of ** influence your clinical years?

How has your 2 years of basic sciences influence your clinical years? Does a student that does poorly REALLY suffer hard when it comes to clincials or does everyone suffer and is that where you learn most of your stuff and the basic 2 years is not that important when your clinicals come?

If you don't learn the stuff during the basic sciences, learn it for Step 1. I think your performance on Step 1 correlates better with how you do in your clinicals.

Part of doing well in clinicals is having a good fund of knowledge, but there is certainly a lot more to it than that. I know a few of my former classmates that were able to make up for a mediocre basic science knowledge base by excelling in other areas, e.g. being an eager self-motivated learner and hard worker with good analytical and interpersonal skills. I also knew a few classmates that were extremely book smart & did well in the basic science years who tanked in the clinicals because of personailty problems, being lazy, not being able to apply their knowledge to actual patients, etc. By and large, however, it seemed that most students who did well in basic sciences did well in clinicals, and those who did poorly in B.S. continued to struggle in clinicals.
