Is SGU going to be like Ross clinicals?

    Advertisements

Sorry if this has been addressed, I searched clinical and nothing came up about this exactly.

I am accepted to Ross and truthfully it feels like a much better fit to me. However after learning about the clinical issue I am putting in my application to SGU. Yet I think Ross is realizing they have a problem and are starting to do something about it, so it might not be fixed by the time I got to that point but would hopefully be better.

With SGU increasing their class size I am afraid if I opt for them instead (I am assuming/hoping I would get in since my stats are decent) then will the problems surface right when I get to that semester? It is so hard to figure out. *sigh*

So I was wondering if you people felt that the increasing SGU class size is going to cause a problem or that they have things figured out? Or are they just going to run into clinical problems a few years after Ross has?

I actually will probably never want to practice in California, but the whole blue book vs. green book thing annoys me about Ross. I am really loath to increase my debt and spend more time abroad but since it is my future, that somewhat pales in comparison. Sorry I am starting to ramble but I am torn about my decision. Of course SGU could always reject me and then I don't have to worry.

there has been no problem for over 10 years with sgu clinicals and i dont anticipate any. that's no promise, but i dont see any reason why there would be. see sgu's news re: NY clinical centers.

obviously you've read the threads on the ross forum about their clinical situation, but i also know that those threads also mentioned that sgu signing a contract with the HHC for $100 million for 600 clinical spots for the next 10 years.

sgu anticipates the need for more clincal spots and has made provisions for them....there is no need to start any kind of rumor that sgu is having issues with clinicals....

dang it, j!! why are you even UP this early?

isnt partly the reason for ross's problem is because of SGU's contract?

yeah I remember hearing about Ross's problem with clinical placements like 3 years ago and nothing has changed, everyone thought that because they were bought out by Devry the problem would be fixed but I guess Devry doesn't want to invest any money into the school, it just wants to make as big of a profit as it can. SGU's contract is very recent the news came out like 7 or 8 months ago... Most of those hospitals that were signed aren't even available yet for us to rotate in.

No problem being placed in clinicals, but the clinical education is not the same at every hospital and not that great at SGU. it all depends on your attendings and how much your resident is willing to teach you. some residents are great, others dont know much...
