    Appealing rejection

    Advertisements

    Hey guys,
It is very sad that I had been recently rejected after being interviewed for MPH.. I am very shocked, because in the rejection email they say that the jan '08 class has a lot of competitive applicants. But instead I was opting for MPH which starts in Feb. I am not sure if the admissions commmittee realizes that I was trying to get into MPH. However, my counselor says they do. ANyways, I am really disheartened and was hoping that atleast the MPH works in my favor and that even spending one extra year would be worth it. I really want to go to SGU, and its always been my dream school. They want me to take some graduate courses and MCAT over to apply for Fall MD program. But then again, there is no guarantee that I will get MD. I can take the MCAT over, at the least, but taking graduate courses would be very expensive at this point.
Is there a way I can appeal this decision and talk to the dean and explain my situation. Has anyone appealed before and got a positive response? I really didnt expect a rejection because I interviewed, and I thought it went really well.

I'm sorry to hear of your situation. You must be very disappointed.

Why not retake the mcat, take a pret course and get a great score.

Would you consider applying to SGU's UK program? I don't think it is as competitive. The Grenada program fills up first.

    All the best.

think of the bright side. Even if you were accepted to the MPH program at SGU, you won't really start your MD until Jan 09 the earliest, I believe, realistically probably Aug 09. Puts you in the match for Aug 2013.
You can STILL enter SGU Aug 09 and not lose time compared to the MPH program if you took more courses and your MCAT and reapply for Fall 09. Just keep your head up.

are they asking you especifically to take graduate courses and the MCAT. i've heard about people having to retake the mcat but not about taking more courses. what was your MCAT and GPA?

i don't know if appeals work for SGU. however, i do know that admission decisions tend to be final.

however, keep in mind, that if you do reapply there is a box on the SGU application that asks how have you improved your application.

When I applied it took me a couple of weeks to submit the initial application. Not because I was lazy or had other things to do, but rather because I am obsessive and constantly rechecked the application for mistakes. About a week later I was notified of an interview that was yet to be scheduled, and about 6 weeks later the interview still hasn't been scheduled. I know admission is rolling so I called my counselor several times to try to speed up the interview process. On the third or fourth call I found out the computer system has me as applying for Aug. 08, even though I was applying for the January 08 term. Maybe I did indeed make that mistake, but considering how many times I checked that application, I doubt it. My counselor, though very nice, is not completely on the ball. In other words, make sure they really did have you down as applying for MPH and not the MD.

u'll have better luck getting into ross and saba than auc. Auc is a little more competitve to get into than the other two schools in my opinion.

hey, i just noticed this post out of the blue and wanted to add that i was told the same thing by SGU 2 years ago...i came from a competitive undergrad where a GPA of 2.0 was like a 3.1 in other colleges (well more like transfer students with 3.8's from other schools who transferred in would get 2.7's after they enter) so i told this to the dean of admissions or someone like that at SGU and they told me that stat was ** and to retake the MCAT and take a year of grad classes. i actually ended up giving him the email addy of the dean of natural sciences who was the one who told me about those statistics about GPA's. I was a bit upset so I decided to go with Ross. Im finishing up my last sem in basic sciences now at Ross and have breezed through basics with good grades and no close calls, etc. you should remember that if they dont want you, its their loss, not yours. also FYI, almost every Ross student studying with me DID get into SGU and AUC and chose ross...not sure if some of you know about that. out of about 30 people who i have become friends with 25+ got into st georges, AUC, or both. and out of those 25 or so i think all the ones who applied to AUC got into AUC. the only exception i noticed at ross is the MERP kids, of which like 8 or 10 out of 50+ got into AUC or st georges but still chose ross, but other than the MERP people many of the ross students chose ross over other schools. and about clinicals, we go into clinicals within 1 month of passing the step 1...there are no probs with rotations here and most of the stuff you read and hear is **..there have been a couple of rare instances when students had to take a holy **** god awful single month off!! between rotations!! call the cops...and those handful of times turn into gossip...75% of the stuff on valuemd and other sites is exagerrated, editted, messed up, or just flat out untrue...75% of the stuff is either opinionated, biased, or in other words just not 100% true so go by whats best for you learned from the facts, not from what you read on random websites.
