    Places to stay?

I am planning on coming to the island soon, and was wondering where are some nice places to stay and eat relatively close to the campus?

grand anse beach has many nice hotels where you can find a room and get some food. also try doing a search, there are lists of nice places to eat and hotels somewhere on this site.

I did the search, but most recent thread was back in '05 I believe. I was just curious if anything has changed down there?

most things haven't changed since, they put up a few extra really nice hotels. but that's about it. they're still on grand anse beach. I am pretty sure you can do a search on google or some travel website that sells hotels and find something. that's what i would do, just make sure it's located on the grand anse beach.

da' big fish is nice, but i think the standards have gone down a little bit this term. its fairly inexpensive, has nice food, good selection and is walkable from campus.

Carib Sushi is also excellent, but can get busy and then you can't buy any sushi, best to get there early. i think they were one chef down before term end, but they might be back to full speed now. the food is excellent and its across the road from the IGA and close to grande anse. the school bus will drop and collect you from just outside the door.

just along the road from carib sushi is la beoff creole. its a posh restaurant, but i thought it was well priced, the staff are fantastic, good wine list, really good food, and a real treat if you want to spoil yourself. its a 1-2min walk from the iga.

the best place for coffee is mocha jumbys, its just outside campus, has internet, nice owners, and is an easy escape. its nothing like starbucks or costa coffee but does smoothies, chai, and cold drinks. i prefer it to the larger 'coffee house' along the maurice bishop highway. i really missed coffee shops whilst in grenada and its hard to get what i call 'real coffee', cappucinos, late, mocha, etc. but, i've enjoyed them at home and is probably the only thing i miss in grenada.

dodgy dock/stewarts is a bit furthe, but walkable from campus, does overpriced and not very good food in my opinion, staff are not always helpful and service can be slow or non existent. the setting is fantastic and its a nice place to just chill out and read a book and drink cocktails, but it is quite expensive and you don't get the same value for money.

most hotels are along grande anse, all serve food.

    hope that helps

I personally don't drink coffee, but I read in another thread and subsequently have seen here in Grenada a "Rituals" chain coffee shop opening up diagonally across from the roundhouses/le marquis complex. Along the same chain as the RBTT bank and other businesses in the strip mall. It looks like it may be 1-2 months off though.

I heard that there will also be one opening up either in spiceland or directly in the IGA.

There is a new coffee shop opening up in Spiceland Mall across from the smoothie place where the ice cream place used to be.

Rumors is a vegetarian restaurant in lower woburn. Trusty phone book lists them @: 473-443-5650. The add doesn't say whether they deliver or not. My guess is no. Apparently the goat in the add is upset because it isn't invited...so no pet goats allowed

Tipp: The closest hotel to campus is the frequently mentioned True Blue Bay Resort. It is maybe 0.5 - 1 mile away from SGU.
