    Should I be worried?

    Advertisements

Hello all, Ive been reading the SGU forum for some time now...I keep checking this because it presents some stress relief when I have concerns about the school.

Anyways, I currently heard that all the spots are filled for this August 2007 class. I was already moved from the January 2007 application cycle to the August 2007 class. Currently SGU is awaiting my MCAt scores (which come out on May 16 since I took it in April)...

How can this be that the class is full and I havent really had a fair shot review? and a few spots left in Global Scholars?

My stats are I applied (Last August 2006..for the January class...was moved to this August 2007 class) My MCAT was low since i didnt take a review course 18P and I just retook it in April. Also my Gpa is 3.3 SGU wrote me a letter asking me to REtake the mcats...and so I did!

Help, someone give me some sign of hope.

If the class is full...Is it possible they will move be to the next January class AGAIN for consideration or will they FLAT out reject me or give me the MPH route with my stats. .Btw, SGU is the only school I applied...My stats were not good for U.S and I dont trust other carribean medical schools =)

    ~Roxy

Thanks for your opinion ahead of time.

Don't worry too much - there are likely still spots available for SGU. There are many who have been accepted to SGU who are on a US med school waitlist... some people will send letters giving up their place in SGU for other schools in US or Carib eventually. So inevitably, there will be open spots.

Hopefully your MCAT is 26+, then you will be fine!

    Good luck

Dont stress out too much, instead, have hope. You took your MCAT already so there's nothing you can do at this point except waiting. Like Game said, there are accepted applicants who are on the waiting list for U.S MD schools. They probably apply to SGU as back up.

maybe it's time to be a little more proactive and not just sit around hoping and praying things will work out.. You should apply to other carib schools so that you have other options open. yes sgu is probably the best carib school but there are others that are good schools and will get you to your final destination which is becoming an MD. I think you've sat around long enough it's time to look for other options.

i agree with RJ- i mean its great that you have a high opinion about sgu and all- but the goal is to become a doctor- having sgu as your only option is adding to your stress. If you had an acceptance from another school- like ross, auc, or saba- one you would have the peace of mind knowing that you ARE going somewhere - it is AMAZING what kind of relief that brings- AND you would have something to bargin with - you could then tell sgu- "sgu is my 1st choice and it is where I want to be, but I have an acceptance at such and such school and they would like me to let them know my decesion- is there anyway to expedite my application?"
I told sgu I was awaiting their decesion before I told ross or auc anything, but really want to know if i had gotten accepted to sgu- a few days later, voila!! I had a letter!

I did see on the chancellors talk that Dr. M said that they were at the waitlist point for the Aug class- so fair shot or no- there are basically more competitive candidiates than you- maybe if they see a high 20s from you- it may get you somthing- but who knows. My advice is - don't put all your eggs in one basket- IF medical school is what you want- apply to the other 3 well established schools and see if you get in there as well. It may be more work- but hey going to sgu isn't all roses either- we have our fair share of complaints.

Thank you so much for your response. I realized I had a mistake in just applying to this one school and hoping to get in. I will try applying to the other 2 good schools..Is it Ross an AUA??? I just feel like its too late and I dont want to do anything else in life than to become a doctor. This is my dream and I will work hard and do whatever it takes!

Thank you again for your advice! Im glad someone is always here on this forum with the intentions to help =)

    Ross
    AUC
    Saba

ross and AUC will give you eligibilty in all 50 states, stafford loans, grad plus loans,
Saba is lacking the TMB approval(they can license but its taken as a case to case basis) but have Cali and NY (you may not want to be in Cali, but many states are going toward using the cali list), and don't have federal loans(but they are a lot cheaper so it may be doable without them).

don't blindly apply - because we said so (well apply - can't hurt ) - but look into the schools and see which suits you best.
    Good Luck!

This is interesting to hear about the BIG 4. When I applied to SGU in 2003, there were only talks about the BIG 3.
