Not sure if foreign medical schools are eligible for sure..you'll have to ask directly.
Hi Everyone,
I am a postgrad, premed, college professional-staff, volunteer EMT from NJ. I need your advice and information on a specific part of my financing of medical school.
My family and I are presently transitioning our lives and lifestyles in pursuit of community commitment as a practicing physician. I work at a college on full-time professional staff, and will submit my completed application for entry to SGU by August 2005. I learned of SGU from one of my students and the combination of the ValueMD forum, on-line access, and alumni commitment to supporting recruitment has provided a great deal of opportunity to fine-tune this plan.
I have a missing piece. While attending an SGU Open House in NYC, an Alumni participant (a previous chiropractor) gave the group advice to anyone looking for opportunities to serve in return for financing of their medical school education. He said, anyone seeking to pursue this financing route should plan to have these efforts coordinated PRIOR to entering medical school. He also cited a Department of the U.S. Government that could help, but I cannot remember what he said and my searches are not getting far.
I am looking for a website address or contact that would provide a good start for identifying these kinds of opportunities. In your replies, please feel free to share your ideas and insights that will help me with this part of my plan.
Many thanks,
JayG

Foreign medical students attending schools not accredited by LCME are generally not eligible for in-school support (ie sponsored scholarship for tuition with monthly living stipend offered by the military or the US public health services).
We are, however, eligible for loan repayment programs after we graduate.
Problem is, loan repayment programs generally will not fully repay your school loans (ie most offer $30,000 per year repayment for a maximum of 4 year repayment)... and make you work in places where the salary may not be as high as the market rate.
