    Started First Day Today: Thoughts

    Advertisements

Hey guys, I just started the first official day of classes, and let me be the first to tell the new comers for the August class, medical school is no joke. You will get hit hard from day one, and it doesn't get any easier. I was really uncomfortable the first few days here at Grenada, but living at Grand Anse and meeting very nice people from every corner of the earth has made me realize that I did not make a mistake coming down here. It is everything they said it is and even more. The students and faculty are really great, and the white coat ceremony, which we had yesterday, made us all feel that we were important and that this was not just another caribbean medical school. Our guest speaker was from Harvard Medical School graduate and the master of ceremonies was a neurologist who graduated from here ten years ago.

To all of those who are having any doubts or if your grades and MCAT aren't that great, I am telling to just apply. I personally had a mediocre GPA and really low MCAT, but St. George's found something special about me that no other US medical school could. Good luck to all those entering or looking to come down here in August. Remember to come down a few days earlier, since it does take some time to get adjusted to this new environment.

Hi stephanie, I just wanted to let you know what a wonderful job your doing with this forum. I truly valued your comments for the January class, since this was my place to run to when I was anxiously waiting for my admissions. Thanks!

    good luck

Good luck all first termers. And let me tell you that SGU students rock during the clinical years from personal experience in my first 18 weeks of my 3rd year. You will know just as much and will be more determined than your US counterparts and believe me attendings and residents notice.

    Classes

Just to give you a perspective...as the work piles up...and it will.... you will always run in to people who tell you how to study....... or what's the best...and your nerves will crack at times...stay strong and find out what works for you. You will always have more than enough to study....let me give you two cents worth too....... .... and you can take what you want from it....there are people who ONLY study class provided materials...that's the handouts which you will get for essentially everything...unless they quote required text reading...by the page!... and they've got straight A's.... so if you're ever in a jam...do the class notes and do those past SGU practice exams...they are often very much on par with what you get. Anatomy...does not change year from year physically.... nor really the type of questions either....look at the ol test and find out what you're dealing with and required to know early so you know what to learn..or how.... Anyways....congratulations..... have some fun and get off campus...maybe even for a term. If you have time see if you can get out to La Sagesse beach...it's private...with the hanging over palm trees sort of thing..... with smooth sand beaches that you can wade out in for 50 + meters with no rocks...and they just finished...or are finishing a nicelooking restaurant...that had potential to be one of the nicest(and best date places too)...besides Beachhouse, Aquarium, La Luna, ... then there's Stuart's and the restaurant next...good for UK music...couch's on a dock, downtown at the end of the harbor...they have a two story joint that's great for lunch...the whole dining area is open to the harbors entrance... greeeeat view..OK food. good service...and then there's the italian joint at one end of the Grande Anse beach,...Coconut beach at the other end.... .... .... but it's out there...and if you have a car.... food will be one third the price...you can go shopping ...and then afford the occasional day out....or beach trip. Take er easy.... it's a lot of work... but a lot of fun,
    Geoff

    The Surge

The Surge is tentatively scheduled for this Friday (the 30th) and is supposed to be in the courtyard in front of the Caribbean House.

Yeah, the AMSA party was amazing! A party by the beach full of all 1st termers and some 2nd termers with an open bar (upper termers making your drinks haha). I wonder how all these other "SGU" parties will be like The Surge, Post-Unified Party, Sandblast, End of term party.
