    2017 Match results to date

To answer queries from various posters on this forum, we put together a list below of 2017 residency placements globally so far, including US / Canadian hospital and specialty where possible. Please keep in mind that this is an initial list, as registration in some countries (Ireland, Israel, Lebanon, etc) is ongoing. Likewise, we are working on the establishment of a UK F1 programme in Cyprus, which will affect the final numbers.

We also listed US / Canadian hospital and specialty placements for 2016 as many of the questions are from students in those countries. As noted previously, placements in 2016 also included 58 in the UK (F1 and F2), 8 in Malta F1, 2 in Lebanese residencies, 3 in Israeli internships, and 1 Irish internship.

Thank you for posting the results so far. How many students graduated from SGUL-Nicosia in 2016? Also, how many students from that 2016 cohort applied for positions in the US, UK, and Canada respectively? Thanks in advance.

62 students graduated in 2016. Please note that the figure of 58 in UKFPO last year includes 25 who went from F1 to F2. For F1 alone, it was 33 graduates from 2016 - all eligible graduates were placed in the UK. 7 applied for the US Match and 3 in Canada.

Hello. Does the 2017 list include students who graduated in previous years? What is the match rate of the class of 2017 please. How many students are in the currently graduating class?

The US Match list for 2017 includes one graduate from 2016. In all, 20 students (including the 2016 graduate) applied for the US Match this year. We expect around 80 students to graduate this month. Apart from the list above for the US, UK and Canada, we have students applying to other countries, and a number of them are expected to be placed in the F1 Programme in Cyprus that is under development.

Once again school is lying about match statistics. The north american recruiter has sent out an email claiming 100% success for canadian and 90% for US applicants.

is the school really prepared to boldly lie like this? We know for a fact there are several students who applied to the us who didn't match. with claiming 16 residencies you're implying only 2 people who applied to the US did not match. that's dishonest, misleading, inaccurate, etc. I welcome any other students to comment because we all know multiple people who did not receive interviews, including 2 students who ended up going to the canadian system - those students still factor into us match statistics because it is independent!! had they not been canadian they would be unemployed (like 1/4+ of the graduating class)

there are also multiple americans/other nationalities who applied to the US and did not match. so your advertised match rate is bogus

School has focused so much energy on rebranding. they realise this is a marketing disaster-having a school that has no emphasis on education and an extremely high rate of graduates with no job offers and dismal career prospects. rather than improve the deficiencies they think a new logo will help. if you really want a logo that represents the so-called "values" of this organisation it would be a cartoon of the dean bursting from the building carrying sacs of cash while the registrar drives the getaway car because i assure you the only value these people possess is greed

The email to which you refer cites 2016 results for North America, which were 90% overall and 100% in Canada. To repeat our previous posting, 20 students (including a 2016 graduate) applied for the US Match this year, and 16 were successful. Those are the facts. And residency placements are continuing: Students are applying to other countries, and a number of them are expected to be placed in the F1 Programme in Cyprus that is planned for this August. We will be posting more details here on the latter development in the next few days, although students have already been briefed.

20 applied out of the 40 or 50 U.S. and Canadian medical students. Didn't apply doesn't mean they don't want to... just that they knew it would be a waste of time.

you mean the F1 Programme that is not actually an F1? That does not lead to UK/GMC license or make any progress towards being eligible to work in ANY healthcare system? You mean the F1 programme where you don't get paid? LOL. you've sent up a system to give unemployed students with visa issues an excuse to stay in the country and work for free, how generous

if the general hospital here was not capable of delivering any education to clinical rotations p and f year how are they going to give adequate post graduate training? of course they're not. it will be the same show up spend an hour shadowing and go home to drink 'frappe'

also, don't forget to include you need to learn to speak greek...minor issue, no? again, not knowing greek would render 90% of experience at the public hospital useless, as many students have found during clinical years

scrapping together a visa loophole to find a place for students (not necessarily because of a fault on their end) who have nowhere to practice and making it count towards nothing and be unpaid does not give you right to include it in career matching results as if it's a legitimate, recognized training programme. everything about this place has 10 lies behind every small truth

This post contains inaccuracies and unsubstantiated comments. It should be pointed out that the GMC has evaluated the quality of our clinical training years in Cyprus, and we are confident that they will approve the proposed F1 Programme. Readers who would like to learn more about F1 in Cyprus should see the new thread that is being posted on this subject.
