    MCATs for Fall 2015 Intake

    Advertisements

Just a reminder to everyone who has just taken the MCAT or who will in the short future: we are interviewing now and will continue for a couple of months for the Fall 2015 intake. The latest anyone can take the MCAT and have a chance of being interviewed for this Fall is mid-July.

    Hi Tipton,

I got accepted into the program 2014, and I were not ready at that time because of my family. If I would like the school reconsider me next year, do you think I have a chance?. Thanks

Most likely yes. Send us an email so we can verify your application status and if we need anything else from you.

    Hi there,
I'm an American prospective medical student and I have my Masters degree from Johns Hopkins in a health concentration. Is there any way I can apply to the 4 year program, as I have taken Chemistry, Biology, and Organic Chemistry as an undergraduate student but have not taken the MCAT? Thanks.

The MCAT or the GAMSAT are prerequisites for the 4-year course. You can take the MCAT as late as early July and, if we still have seats available, be interviewed in time for the start of the course at the end of August.

I have seen a lot of problems about clinical site shortages in Chicago. Your school site shows new places like Ny, Mass, and Miami. So does that mean that the problem of not having enough US sites is being resolved? I am not big on Chicago, but want to be ensure that I get US sites so that the program is complete for US students when applying for residency. I work in NY at one of the residency centers that has a lot of IMG's coming in every year for the last 3 years. So I have seen various locations and enough to not be worried about just Chicago. However, I do want to know that if not Chicago, the other sites are set up.

We have 45 clinical training places in Chicago for each cohort. These places are reserved for US and Canadian citizens on a “first come, first served” process of allocation based on admission to the programme and subsequent tuition deposit. Over the past 2 years, all students interested in doing their clinicals in Chicago have been guaranteed a place there. Your admissions advisor can update you on the number of seats in Chicago still available for this year's entry class.

In addition, all students are eligible for clinical training at the Ponce Health Sciences University, which has ACGME-approved specialities in Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Family Medicine, Psychiatry and Surgery. The clinical sites in New York, Florida and Massachusetts are intended for students undertaking their clinical training in Cyprus or Israel who are interested in experiencing the US healthcare setting; through these sites, they are able to spend from 12 to 23 weeks in the United States.

The Ponce site has access to ACGME residencies in those specialties but SGUL students do not get to do rotations at most of them. They're in Spanish anyway, so that they're trying to sell Ponce is bizarre. In the states that check the quality of Clerkships, they also often specify a recommended duration for this rotations. All SGUL rotations are five weeks in duration which means even if you did get to rotate with all ACGME residencies, you would be short for most of the cores. Also note that SGUL has a defined third and fourth year curriculum that allows no significant electives (you get one after graduation) and no guaranteed time off for interviews in fourth year. These are serious inconveniences and deficiencies to consider aside from the location of the clinical site.
