    Wondering about getting Residency here

    Advertisements

Got a buddy who went to this school, transfered in from another school and did clinicals. He tried to get a residency and nobody picked him.
Could this be due to the troubles at this school?

He has passed his step 1 and 2.

sorry about the delay in answering but I don't check here often anymore (not many visitors to this forum)

There are lots of reasons why someone does not get a residency, or gets a great residency.

Passing the USMLE exams are only a part of whole process, and "passing" alone does not guarantee a spot. The application process is actually fairly complex. Residency is becoming more and more competitive every year, with Higher and higher board scores becoming almost mandatory for all specialties. Passing on the first attempt is also an increasing requirement.

Getting a residency spot also involves good letters of reference, good interviewing skills, some luck etc.. etc...

There are fewer and fewer residency spots with more and more highly qualified people applying for them.

In fact not getting a residency is not unique to SCIMD or other foreign schools. I personally know of a few US grads who did not match in the first round (but this is a fairly rare occurrence). There are even cases where FMGs pre match into highly competitive positions.

If your friend is still struggling to get interviews or match have him/her contact the school as there are people who can go over the file and give advice and help out how to make the applicant more competitive.

i don't check any one other than this one. Every school has their problems and I'm not going to troll their forum they have people to deal with it.

Even this I sparse come to anymore since there is very little activity here anymore.

I would say i check in once a week or every other week.

Many of them are currently in residency programs. However, when it comes to getting permanent licenses is another story. Time will tell.

If you can get a residency then you should be able to get a permanent license. No one will say, "you're good enough for this state for 3 years but after you complete our program then you aren't good enough.

Long story short- if you get a residency then you are good to go.

Incorrect. There are a handful of grads who have permanent medical licenses in various states. A number of grads are also in various fellowships.

I do know past grads who are licensed in Florida and Wyoming plus a few other states. They got licensed before all this stuff was happening at this school. At the present time, I have yet to know anyone who's gotten a residency with the troubles this school is facing now.
