    survival rate without computers?

    Advertisements

I wouldn't be able to afford a computer during my first two semsters of medical school. I am wondering how tough is it to survive without a personal computer?

You do not have to have a comp, but it really makes life MUCH easier. Eventually you will need one for presentations etc... but for first semester you will probably be ok.

    survival rate without computers?

Can one maybe use computers at University of Luton, , or using facilities by 'outsiders' is prohibited. I am wondering maybe the library at University of Luton has some computers that can be used by guests.

Also, how many computers are in SC? Any possible chance one can use those to keep in touch with he FaMiLy?

I don't think you can use the Univ of Luton comps, u can use the library though.

Currently there are 5 computers available for general students use, however there are 20 on hold for when we have the space dedicated. The work on the new buildings has started yesterday with measuring, etc. and more people can today for more measurements. It should be done by Jan and all the 20 comps will be available to students.

    Re: survival rate without computers?

It is true that we cannot use the University of Luton computers as we no longer have an affiliation with them...

We can use their library, but we cannot take out any book or materials from the University of Luton. The University of Luton is being very generous by allowing us to use their library facilities for studying/in-library reference of materials since we do not currently have a library. It is impossible for anyone to say how much longer the University of Luton will continue to allow us to use their facilities.

The computer systems we have at St. Chris have a number of difficulties that prevent them from having an internet uptime of more than 50-60% at best. I am currently working with the Information Systems Manager at the school to make the network we have more reliable, but we have encountered a number of setbacks because of faulty network hardware that needed to be replaced. We now have the necessary components, and they should be in place by the end of the semester drastically improving the quality of the network we have at St. Chris.

The ISM is leaving next week and I was going to take over the maintenance of the Student Information Systems as well as consult on the extension of our existing wireless network for the second floor so we could improve to a 99% uptime. However, I changed my mind and will not be working with the information systems beyond the repairs/upgrades I agreed to help with for this semester.
