"You want the truth...you can't handle the truth"....(Jack Nicholson addressing the doubters)

    Hey mates,
I am being bombarded with emails from students currently at St Chris asking me to post some information. They have given me permission to release the following....here it goes....

Found out officially that there are only 3 STATES you can do clinicals in. These m************ finally let the "cat out of the bag". Got it in an email sent to the entire class from the class rep aka futurphysician. I don't know if the a place to exchange gas intended to make this revelation, but he did. There is a copy of the email in the body of the text below

Thanks to all of you who came to the Dean's meeting...sans actual Dean. I think those of you in attendance hopefully got something out of it that may have calmed some nerves. It seems that once every semester the sky is falling and somehow it still remains 5 miles up. So for the short version of what occurred I will give you a brief synopsis.

    1) Dr. Mo**te left for "personal reasons". My opinion, and MY OPINION ONLY, is that some handling of the transition from Dr. Mo**te to Dr. Po***er has been handled not very smoothly. I also believe some egos are involved. Again, its just my opinion based on all the information I gather. I think that overall the hiring is a very good thing. I think the forward progress he'll bring to the position will be good long term. Bottom line: let this work itself out. Dr. H**e is going to do a fine job. Support him and just learn the material. Thoracic is not massively involved like the Lower Limb or Head and Neck, so just work hard.

    2) Which brings us to Dr. Ch***an. Again, just my opinion and reasonable people may defer, but I think some lack of deference may have placed him in a tough position. It is no secret that Dr. Mo**te did NOT want the Dean's position to begin with and I think some of the responsibilities Dr. Ch***an took up for him are suddenly being taken away de facto. I think he is a brilliant man and a great teacher. I know that anytime someone needed to bend his ear he was available. I believe that if Dr. Le**e will make him happy with providing the autonomy he wants and needs then the issue will be resolved. As a class I know we are concerned that one of the best assets we have may leave. I am hoping that this will not happen. Whenever there is a question that arises about a clinical or residency situation he had an answer. That alone, yielded a lot of confidence in what we are doing and where we are heading. Dr. Ch***an, as well, has a vision for better teaching and clinical evaluations in later semesters and everyone wants that to happen. I think that that will happen overall, but the real issue is direction and approach. Change is always met with some trepidation. I can understand some people being upset over the prospect of Dr. Ch***an leaving and I agree. However, he is not gone and while there is still avenues of approach, please email Dr. L***e [pl***[email protected]] to express your support for him. I am, as I said, hopeful.

    3) The school is not on shakey financial ground. Please put that rumor to rest. That same rumor hit Ross University two weeks before it was bought out by Devry....for $300,000,000. Rumors are rumors, but this one is completely unfounded.

    4) The NJ issue was re-adressed. The bill was signed into law by Gov. McGreavey, but has not been delivered to the NJ Dept. of State. So the application is supposed to be officially in on Dec. 12. A notice of approval will follow posted on the main board in the school. NY and Fla (please get it done) will follow. Expect either to get done in the next 16 months. If you want those for clinicals, again the next thing to do is email Dr. L***e. Clinical centers remain Atlanta, Louisiana, and Chicago, with Denver also being on that list now.

    5) Upstairs issue was also revisited and as usual the Council seems to continue to drag their feet. I have no idea the whole perspective on this, but I will tell you that in private meetings concerning this the administration and Dr. L***e have expressed considerable angst about the dealings with the Luton Borough. I can understand that since it took so long for me just to get a window replaced here. Those of you who choose to believe otherwise are free to do so. I can see your point as to whether or not they are telling the truth, however, I have no reason to not believe Dr. G**y. He has been honest and forthcoming with us. We aren't in Kansas anymore.

    6) I hope this has been informative. I know some of you are upset and anxious. I know I have been as well, but I feel a little less so after todays meeting. So some of you who are nervous and scared, put away the transfer applications and knives and walk away from the edge. Like I said before and say always, we are in this together. If you are genuinely not happy and just can't take it, well...good luck and so long. Nothing should keep you where you are not happy and satisfied. This is a school in serious transition. I think the future is bright and when we get to Path we'll all be thankful of what we have gone thru together. I think the situation is heightened by the timing of it all and that has a dramatic effect on our emotions. Let's be passionate about what we all want and deserve, but lets not be irrational. These things have a habit of working themselves out, usually for the good.

See you all tomorrow....Matt, I said step away from the edge.

Doubt any NY hospitals are willing to sign affiliation agreements with an UNAPPROVED medical school in NY. SC students may find some inner city hospitals in NYC that are willing to take them in for some rotations, but this is not formal affiliation.

If you are claiming otherwise, please provide names of NY hospitals you have "formal affiliations" with.

And yes, there are plenty of other states that require formal affiliations -- PA, FL, TX to name a few. Plenty others out there. This is why big schools such as SGU no longer allow rotations outside of formal affiliation agreements.

    tx is weird

last time i looked, >2 years, you could do all rotations there BUT if you wanted license for residency/practice you couldn't do any UNLESS your school had an agreement so they get cheap slave labor then don't let you reap your rewards or the rules were so confusing that i misunderstood from the begining

    This gets ugly

Some of these threads are "attack St. Chris" threads just to be malicious. I think the issue of licensure is important, and there are a LOT of details to go through. People in med school usually don't look into licensure. It often becomes a concern during residency. We start off very stupid and get a bit more saavy as time goes on. I don't like the tone that this thread started on, but I do agree that the issues need to be addressed. Can we find a better way to bring them up? As with any new school there WILL be issues, and these fora are often the only places to get the straight poop. Let's be civil as we continue this debate. G

    keep it civil....

I agree with teratos. We are all adults. Lets make these boards a useful tool instead of a forum for bashing. The trolls will eventually die off and if they linger, they will be easy to spot...

the truth about licensing in the UK

well, the nice thing about St. Chris appears to be that the students are protective of their school.

the bad thing is the information they are given is incorrect. It is posted on their website that their students can get licensed in England. So being the type of guy I am I contacted GMC and find out that they haven't made a ruling on it and in fact that it is problematic that their WHO recognition is in Senegal and not in England where they are studying. Before any of the 'goons' start attacking me personally I suggest that you contact GMC and inquire directly yourself and see what you are told. This,as many of you can surmise, is going to present problems for you in states that require you to be able to be licensed in the country where you graduated.

What I see happening here is that the school is in a 'defensive' mode rather than working on changing things to prevent problems. It reminds me of the old saying 'when you are up to your a** in alligators it is hard to remember you came to drain the swamp'. The solution in businesses that have problems like this is to bring in professional management. It remains to be seen if SC can fix itself.

Since GMC is currently looking at this now, maybe St. Chris can start spending that money they have supposedly put away just for dealing with licensure right now. You know, it better to deal with licensing issues of not studying in the country of charter now before they firm up on their ruling. It has been my experience that once a ruling is made, changing it is just that much harder.

So, 2 places that St. Chris now needs to deal with licensure issues: Pennsylvania and UK.
