well, i got burned at kigezi. i just spent 2 months researching all schools. i just wanted to tell all the kigezi students (and others) DO NOT GO TO THIS SCHOOL (SC)! SC is the only school i have been told BY NAME that i should not attend, by states medical boards (only one said St.christopher's (TX), the other said avoid all but the top 3-5 "international" schools). there is a meeting of all state boards in august and schools that are not accepted in 49-50 states may all go away (in the eyes of the USA)... scary. it also might come down to california...If you are transfering, only go to SC if they are your only choice. i wish i didnt have to put down another school. sorry.

    meeting

I'm sorry about what happened to you. The state boards have a meeting every year. Last year, there were the same warnings about how all the schools would shut down, but nothing like that ever happened. Azskeptic spoke at the last one. And how is it that when other people checked with their state's boards, they didn't get the same warnings about St. Chris that you did? Hmmm...

    How interesting

I don't think I have ever heard such thing from any medical board. The last time I spoke to a board member, they told me they don't investigate schools, and they don't base whether you get licensed or not on what school you attended! They have the final say if they license you or not, they don't care if you attending AUC, ROSS, SGU, etc. I am not knocking these schools, I never have and never will, just please, if you have nothing constructive to post then don't post at all.
And if in fact this did happen to you then I apologize for what ever was said to you. I recommed that you try and get into a more established medical school so that you don't have to put yourself through all of this.

Have fun and enjoy your schooling where ever you do decide to go... GOOD LUCK!

    Regards,

    Darlyn

    TX boards

I spoke with someone from almost every state's medical boards. It really brought this whole mess to light. St. Chris was referred to by the Texas state medical board rep as questionable when i asked about them. I also asked almost all states board reps about various schools. i found that, obviously, the "big 3" were accepted pretty much everywhere. I also found that SABA, St. Matts, MUA and one or two others were also looked at as equivalent (as well as some european schools). hours of research revealed: If you can't get into SGU or Ross, go to AUC (very close 3rd). If you cant get into AUC, Go to SABA. If you cant get into SABA got to St. Matts or MUA (also, european schools). there are other good schools that were not on my list for various reasons, so of course this is not a complete list. I am not going to say where SC falls. that would be mean. i was considering SC until i looked into this whole US students thing.
really good students who for one reason or another didn't get in to school in the US, even though they were very qualified, go to SGU, Ross and AUC (also some go to the other schools i mentioned and of course there are one or two really good students at every school) as you start getting declines from these top schools, students move there way down the list to less reputable schools. the great thing about medicine is that the USMLE puts everyone on a level playing field. the pipe dreamers will never pass step 1 and the good students from any school will do well. this is only my second post. i just didnt want the students from my previous school to get burned again. remember, TX moved first on this, but others will follow! If you are considering SC go ahead and call the TX boards...ask if you will be able to practice there! don't take my word for it! you should be smarter than that!
