    August 2011

    Hey,
So I am coming for August to start med school. I was wondering if anyone that currently goes there/went there could tell me about the housing? My parents are coming with me when I first fly down, is there any good local hotels?

    Thanks!

The school will put you in contact with some people and they will show you around. I stayed in the orchard, many students do. It is about a 3-5 minute walk to the school. I sent you a private msg as well.

I was wondering is housing there beautiful and exotic since ur in the caribean?
i lived in Boston and housing there just sucks. It is so freaken old and underdeveloped, and yet they have the audacity to charge $1600 a month

There is a local hotel here known as kimatri (not sure how its spelt), and the areas Cedar Heights 1, Orchard, or Black Bay are fairly close to school (within 10-15minutes walking). Also if you come a week early, you can come down and check out the available places and you will have an adequate amount of time to choose a place that fits your needs.

    CutelilMD:

You can definitely find a nice, developed place for a really good price, the rent is fairly cheap when compared to rent prices back home. Expect to pay anywhere from 150-400 USD/month for rent, usually it doesnt get much higher than that unless you find a really really really nice place.

hmm through your experience with saint lucia housing, do you think it will be possible for a student to find a one bedroom and one bathroom apartment that looks so exotic and tropical. I wanna live near an area where there are a lot of trees and plants. Basically living in a beautiful forest, yup that will be my dream apartment. Then again I have a feeling I'm asking too much and will end up living in a dump where the toilet will be next to my bed.
Boy i can't wait, jail, I mean medical school here I come

Hmm if I'm willing to pay 700 dollars, how nice could my place be?????

Hahha I'm so sorry if I seem to care so much about living arrangement, it's just the first year when I moved to Boston, I end up living in a haunted apartment in cambridge. it was the worst experience ever, trying to study and ignore the random image of a woman appearing out of nowhere was a traumatic experience of my life. During that year, it taught me a valuable lesson, where you live affects how you study, and I want to enjoy my study when I get to the island. I don't wanna be reading about transposition of the greater artery and then seeing some weird paranormal crap, damn if that ever happen to me again, I will never think about this artery the same way again.

Haha hmm i doubt there will anything to the description you have...I wouldn't really say there is anything exotic here (atleast the way you are thinking). If you are willing to spend 700 USD then there is a complex i know of called Castles which is extremely nice, but fairly far from school (you will need a car) but its still not surrounded by a forest or anything (but amazing view). Be prepared though groceries and other things also do cost an inflated amount over here, which is why most students decide to just get a normal place in the 300USD range so they have more money for food and other things. I agree the place you live is a pretty important thing, but don't expect too too much before you get down or you will most likely be greatly disappointed. I suggest coming a week or 2 early just to properly scout out your place and get settled.

i go to iau which is right next to spartan.. my apartment is actually a few minutes walk from spartan.. act quickly with whoever runs housing by school so they can get you the best possible place cause they go quickly.. they won't be anything fancy but they are pretty decent. most important is that it is clean, has good internet access and has reserve water cause when there is long rain, the water pressure is really low for up to 2 days... also i don't think it's possible to make it thru med school if u live in castries and have to drive to vieux fort everyday, its a 1-1/2 hour drive.. i have a 2br for myself and its 700, so it's not that bad.. there isn't much to spend money on here, so you might as well go all out on an apt and food
