    New York approval 2009

This is the news: The New York state education department committee will recommend graduate students from Spartan Medical School to be eligible for clinical rotations in New York state hospitals.
It is the news from December 2009.
I am congratulating all fellow students from Spartan, the Spartan professors, and staff with this great achievement.
    Go Spartan.

I spoke to a friend that goes to Spartan and he told me that the new 5th trimester will be held in NYC. This school is really going places quickly! I am applying to island schools now and this is a huge selling point for me to go to Spartan (From the NYC area). Is this the only island school that has 5th trimester in NY? Can the school/moderator provide any details?

As with anything else until the University announces (publicly) any such decision to me it is merely rumor (true or not).

If this is indeed true, it would be yet another smart move on the school administrations part. Such a setup could only assist students with their pre-clerkship education, clerkship education and preparation for the USMLE. NY is one of (if not the most) welcoming states for IMG's and clerkships here can provide key exposure to the hospitials one may wish to pursue for residency.

For now, it is important that the school be recomended to the NYS board of regents, for approval to conduct all clinical rotations in the state of NY. This is a major milestone and accomplishment for one of the oldest Caribbean medical schools (30 years on Jan. 7th).

This is my first time posting on value MD. Great job Spartan! Can anyone clue me in on the changes that led the New York State Education Department to give the school the OK. Does this mean that all of the 3rd and 4th year rotations can be completed in NY? If so, what hospital(s)? Has anyone else heard about a semester in NY (is this for rotations or something different)?
Thank you for your reply in advance.

So any more news regarding this approval? Any idea when the NY board will officially recognize this on their website?

I am not entirely sure. The way I understand it is that the school has met the requirements now they just have to wait for official approval. I imagine it will occur at some point in the near future, but honestly have no clue when the NYS board meets to discuss topics such as this.
