Internet access is not bad ONE YOU GET IT... wherever you choose to love MAKE SURE THEY HAVE INTERNET SET UP AND ACTIVATED BEFORE YOU GO IN.. I have heard horror stories of people waiting up to 6 months for the net to be installed in the house/apt.

as a side note I suggest you not live away from the school... I preferred the orchard but some liked the alley...(both close to the school)

The island is a rude awakening if you are from the states... lots of time after it rains your water gets turned off and your power will go out from time to time... I really suggest you stay close to the school with your family as well since getting around if you do not have a car is a *Pain in the butt*

If you have a very young child there is a day care facility in the orchard (but I am not sure how this may compare to others in the area).

I am not on the island anymore ...

if you need any other information feel free to ask...

also if you are looking for a place to live (I suggest you go down at least a week before your first tri starts) ... throw me a msg and I can give you the name of my landlord ... nice guy who always looks out for the students ...

Also, if I could suggest that you bring first aid with you and make sure you know that book COLD by the time you are done with your basic science material ...

as a side note ... for what comes to mind right now ... here are some books you should have for first trimester: (dont know if they are all on the book list but you should definitely have them)

    1. NMS physio (I think BRS is good as well)
    2. High Yield Embryology *this book was great*
    3. BRS anatomy
    4. Atlas of Human Anatomy (by Frank Netter) - I think the newest one is the third edition.
    5. histology (I think they text they give in the book list is fine

That is all that comes to mind right now ... EXCEPT that you may want to buy all your books and bring them with since getting them on the island is ussually more expensive and a hassel.

    Good Luck...

ive lived in the orchard for 10 months now and ive had no problems. my land lord are great its safe. i didnt have internet but it only took a week to have them set it up and get it going, i havent heard of any one waiting more that 2 weeks for cable and wireless to get them going. the day care in the orchard seems to be ok, there is a women in my class who has her some there and she said they take good care of the children.
having your water turned off if a real pain , but before you move into a place ask if the landlord has pump, so even if the water does get turned off from the city you will still have a constant flow of water from the reserve tanks.

the book store has been very reasonable with their prices. only about 5-10$ us extra for a book, and in my case it was worth saving the extra weight in my luggage and just buying them here.

if you have any more questions feel free to pm me, ill be more that happy to answer any questions.

I was not aware of the book store and their prices. But I must admit I never purchased books from them since I had already bought them and brought them with me. For such a minimal price difference I would suggest you save the weight in your luggage and purchase them in the bookstore. Believe me you are better off making the most of your luggage space. Good Luck!!!!

As for the pump ... I could not agree more. Having a pump is a nice treat.

    Hey,

was contemplating on joining one of these med schools close to St. Lucia. Spartan seemed to be a decent option. Could any one tell how much the course books cost?

It depends on where you get them. I would call the school and ask for the book list then check the prices on amazon (get them at school to save weight on your luggage) and figure a range of plus or minus a few dollars the prices you see on amazon

Sorry I could not be more helpful... maybe someone currently on the island would have more info...
