    Canadians and Visas

    Advertisements

    Hi all,

I'm wondering if there are any Canadians who are currently in clerkship rotations and can shed some light around the issue of getting a student visa for the US?

Has anyone written their USMLE STEP 1 exam and then come back to the campus to finish off Clinical therapeutics and ICM and then gone onto clinicals directly? I understand some paperwork needs to be submitted prior to the end of 4th semester to ECFMG, but when does the paperwork for getting a US Visa begin?

    thanks!

No paperwork needs to be submitted until 5th semester (or after) and you need your step scores to get a letter from the school to apply for a visa.
I really think you have to leave Cayman and go to a country that has an American embassy to apply for it though.. Jamaica has one if you don't wanna go to Canada for some reason. It took me less than a day to get my immigration-letter from the school once I submitted my step score to them and only 3 days from the time I visited the embassy until I had the visa in my hands, so that process is very short. But there are a lot of papers to bring with you to the embassy, so log on to the US embassy website and check the requirements for a B1 visa. This way you can collect everything (and book an appointment at the embassy) while you wait for your score and speed up the process.
