I took it AftenMD wasn't able to read it. Either way, it's in your PM box.

    word from chancellor,

On behalf of all of the faculty and staff of SMU, I would like to thank the students for the inspiration you provide us each day. Your determination in pursuit of your dreams is both remarkable and commendable – particularly in light of the difficulties and distractions posed by the current credit crisis and recession.

Your achievements become more impressive with each passing semester. In Fall 2008, the NBME shelf exam scores were the highest in SMU history, and the average score was more than 35% higher than when we began using the shelf exam several years ago. The 2009 National Residency Match Process was far and away the most successful in SMU history. We have already learned of approximately 100 SMU matches, which is nearly double the number in 2008. In Clinical Science, the total number of ACGME-approved core rotations has increased by 35% in the last year, and has doubled in the last two years. This is due to new hospital affiliations like those recently added in Oklahoma and Georgia, but even more so due to growth with existing clinical training sites. Once again, our students are instrumental to this success. When affiliate hospitals recognize the professionalism, work ethic, knowledge, compassion and humility of our students, they are amenable to accepting more SMU students into their programs. While we still have more work to do in adding clinical rotations – particularly in specialties like pediatrics – we completed registration again this semester without a wait list for entry into clinicals.

The SMU veterinary school was recently granted affiliate membership in the American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges, which is wonderful recognition of the success being created by the students, faculty and staff of that young school. In May the charter class of students will graduate, and we are particularly thankful to these pioneering students for their contributions to the vet school’s success.

Your contributions to the Cayman community are also impressive, particularly given the time constraints imposed by your busy schedules. Activities such as volunteering at nursing homes, beach clean-ups, support of Agriculture Day and the Cayman Heart Fund, all leave a legacy of goodwill that will extend long beyond your own stay on the island.

Thank you once again for providing the inspiration that makes us all proud to work at St. Matthew’s University.
